Manav Suthar Bags Maiden Fifer In County Cricket; Joins Elite List

Manav Suthar once again excelled with the ball, this time against Somerset in Warwickshire’s Division One match of the 2026 County Championship season. 

The young Indian spinner picked up five wickets in the second Somerset innings at the Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton on Monday, June 22. 

Suthar’s spell folded up Somerset for 435 in 153.5 overs as it set up a 314-run target for Warwickshire on the final day. Through the course of his performance, the 23-year-old cricketer also joined a rare County Championship club featuring some legendary Indian bowlers. 

Manav Suthar picks up five in County after Test debut

Manav Suthar steamrolled Somerset in their second innings in match number 40 of the County Championship Division One 2026 season. The Indian left-arm spinner toiled away for 46.5 overs, conceding just 100 runs in the process with an added bonus of five wickets.

Suthar dismissed three of Somerset’s top four batters, including South Africa import Jordan Hermann. The ace spinner also knocked over tailenders Alfie Ogbourne and Jake Ball in quick succession to bag his maiden five-wicket haul in County Cricket.

Suthar also picked up two wickets in the first Somerset innings, to claim seven wickets in the match, thus seizing overall figures of 7-150. 

Who are other Indian bowlers to have taken a County five-fer?

Manav Suthar has now joined an elite list of Indian bowlers who have taken a five-wicket haul in a County Championship match. 

The 23-year-old joined several former Indian cricketers like Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Bishan Singh Bedi, Srinivas Venkataraghavan, Dilip Doshi, Ravichandran Ashwin in the club, alongside active players like Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sai Kishore, Washington Sundar among others.

Manav Suthar takes India debut heroics to England

Earlier this month, Manav Suthar made his Team India debut after getting selected in the national squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

He was picked following his wicket-taking spree in domestic cricket, especially for the Rajasthan cricket team in Ranji Trophy matches and for India A and Rest of India teams at various stages.

The youngster picked up six Afghanistan wickets in his maiden innings in international cricket, doing so by conceding just 33 runs in New Chandigarh. The cricketer also snared an additional wicket in the second innings to finish with match-winning figures of 7-62.

Team India ended up winning the match by an innings and 300 runs. 

Somerset vs Warwickshire head towards a draw

Regardless of Suthar’s fighting five-wicket haul in the second innings, the Division One County Championship match between Somerset and Warwickshire seems to be heading towards a draw on the final day in Taunton.

Warwickshire required 314 runs from the remaining 61 overs of the final day, and started off their chase with a cautious approach.
