In a major development, the venues for the IPL 2026 edition have been revealed, with match hubs spread across Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cities, along with several new additions to the expanding list.
Alongside traditional venues such as Chennai, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Dharamshala, Hyderabad, Guwahati, newer venues like Thiruvananthapuram and Pune have also been included to further enhance the league’s growing reach.
18 venues confirmed for IPL 2026
According to a report by Jagran News journalist Abhishek Tripathi, Thiruvananthapuram and Ranchi are likely to serve as home venues for Chennai Super Kings during the first half of the tournament due to election-related clashes in Chennai. In total, 18 venues have been confirmed for IPL 2026:
Chennai, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, New Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Dharamshala, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Jaipur, Bengaluru, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Navi Mumbai, Thiruvananthapuram.
The BCCI’s proposal to use these venues is being viewed as a strategic move to engage fans in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Significant investments have already been made in stadiums such as Guwahati, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam to upgrade them to international broadcast standards and strengthen overall infrastructure.
IPL 2026 schedule yet to be announced with confirmed venues
However, the IPL 2026 schedule is yet to be officially announced, as the BCCI continues to work closely with the Home Ministry and the Election Commission to ensure adequate police deployment across both polling booths and stadiums.
Similar to the 2024 season, the board may opt for a phased release of the schedule, with the first half announced initially, and the remainder revealed after the elections conclude.
As of now, there has been no discussion about shifting any part of the tournament to the UAE or South Africa in case of major election-related conflicts during the April–May window.
Key venues still face uncertainty
Meanwhile, some key franchise venues face uncertainty. Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium could be at risk due to safety concerns and a new state law introduced after the fatal stampede in 2025.
Rajasthan Royals’ home venue, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, is also under scrutiny as administrative issues related to RCA elections remain unresolved.
The BCCI has warned that Rajasthan could lose its home ground if the matter is not addressed, with Pune’s MCA Stadium identified as a potential backup.
New venues could turn up as an advantage for the IPL
On the other hand, new hubs like Mohali and Raipur are expected to host marquee fixtures. Mohali could even stage playoff matches this season, in addition to serving as a primary venue for the Punjab Kings, owing to its world-class drainage system.
Raipur has emerged as a strong candidate for neutral matches due to its massive seating capacity.
Notably, Maharashtra could become a major cricket hub this season, with Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune collectively capable of hosting multiple games each week with minimal travel demands for teams.
