In a significant development, New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell has dethroned Virat Kohli, claiming the number one rank in the ICC ODI rankings. Virat Kohli had recently become the number one-ranked ODI batter amid his exploits during India's home series against New Zealand. However, Daryl Mitchell surpassed him following his stellar show in the three-match series, becoming the new numero uno in the ODI batters' list.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma demoted; Mitchell claims top spot

Daryl Mitchell had a memorable time with the bat against India, scoring 352 runs across three outings. After scoring a valiant half-century in the series opener, Mitchell hammered two consecutive centuries, playing a pivotal role in New Zealand's historic series victory.

The right-handed batter's exceptional returns helped him earn crucial rating points and place himself at the top of the pile. Currently, Mitchell sits atop the rankings with 845 rating points, his personal best, leading Virat Kohli by a significant 50 points.

While Virat Kohli has moved to the second spot, his long-term batting partner, Rohit Sharma, has also witnessed a demotion in the ICC ODI rankings. The former Indian captain couldn't live up to the expectations against New Zealand, managing only 61 runs in the three-match home series. Rohit Sharma's failure was a major reason behind India's abysmal performance, as the hosts suffered a shocking series defeat to New Zealand's second-string side.

Rohit has moved one spot down to number four, with Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran replacing him at third spot. Indian captain Shubman Gill retains his fifth spot, while KL Rahul has entered the top ten, claiming the tenth position. Shreyas Iyer has been demoted to 11th following his flop show in the New Zealand series, which saw him score only 60 runs in three outings.

Kuldeep Yadav moves down, Glenn Phillips makes notable progress

Experienced New Zealand cricketer Glenn Phillips was the second-most successful batter from his team against India, scoring 150 runs, including a hundred in the decider in Indore. Phillips, who stitched a match-winning partnership of 219 runs with Daryl Mitchell, has made rapid gains, claiming the joint 31st spot by jumping fourteen places in the ICC ODI allrounders' rankings.

On the contrary, Kuldeep Yadav's ordinary returns in the ODI series against New Zealand have adversely affected his position in the bowlers' rankings. The Indian spinner, who could scalp only three wickets at a poor economy of 7.28, now sees himself at seventh following a four-spot demotion.

New Zealand's Mitchell Santner, who was rested for the ODI series against India, has been demoted by three places to the tenth, while Harshit Rana has leapt 27 spots to 50th following his impressive performance (6 wickets in 3 matches).

Michael Bracewell, who led New Zealand in the India series, has moved six places up to 33rd in the bowlers' rankings. Ace Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan continues to remain atop the bowlers' list with 710 rating points, followed by England's Jofra Archer (670 points), Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana (647 points), South Africa's Keshav Maharaj (646 points) and Namibia's Bernard Scholtz (645 points) in chronological order.
