India cricketer Rohit Sharma faced a public harassment incident involving a middle-aged woman while entering the Radisson Hotel in Indore after the conclusion of the third ODI between India and New Zealand. Rohit Sharma, who is usually calm and composed with fans, appeared visibly shocked by the sudden intrusion.

India lost the ODI series against New Zealand, with Rohit Sharma registering modest scores in the 20s throughout the series. However, that did not affect his popularity or influence among fans of all age groups. On the night of January 20, Rohit was left shell-shocked when a woman breached the security cordon and grabbed his hand while he was walking into the hotel lobby.

Rohit Sharma shocked at sudden invasion

As Rohit entered the premises, the woman, who was waiting outside among reporters, suddenly dodged the security personnel and held his hand while screaming, “Please help me, please help me.”

Rohit was taken aback by the sudden act and was momentarily pulled off balance. However, the security staff reacted promptly and de-escalated the situation by escorting the woman away from him.

Who is the woman who grabbed Sharma's hands?

Later, in a video shared on social media, the woman identified herself as Sarita Sharma and admitted to breaking through the security line and grabbing Rohit Sharma’s hand. She claimed that her daughter Anika Sharma is suffering from SMA Type 2, a condition that requires an injection called Zolgesma, which reportedly costs ₹9 crore.

Sarita stated that she has managed to collect around ₹4.10 crore through fundraising campaigns but still needs the remaining amount. According to her statement, she went to the Radisson Hotel, where the Indian team was staying, in the hope of seeking help from one of the cricketers.

She admitted that her intention was to get the attention of any senior player and request financial assistance. Sarita also said that she believes cricketers like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma often help children and young people, which is why she approached them.

Sarita confesses her wrongdoings with Rohit

However, she acknowledged that touching Rohit and pulling his hand was wrong. In the video, Sarita pleaded with both Virat Kohli and Rohit to help her, clarifying that she was not seeking a selfie or an autograph but was fighting for her daughter’s life.

She apologised to Rohit for the distress caused by her actions and expressed regret for the incident while continuing to seek help for her child.

Is Sarita's 'cry for help' fake?

Whether Sarita Sharma’s case is genuine or not is yet to be verified. A few days ago, a similar incident was reported when a woman approached popular YouTuber and influencer Elvish Yadav along with her child, seeking help.

In that case, the woman also claimed that her child required the same ₹9-crore injection. However, it was later revealed that the claim was fake.

Given the rising number of such potential scams, the authenticity of Sarita Sharma’s plea for help remains unverified, with many suggesting that she seek assistance through official government channels.

Nevertheless, following the shocking incident, Rohit Sharma is expected to spend some time away from cricket before the IPL 2026 and ahead of his next international assignment, which is scheduled for July 26 against England.
