Bangladesh cricket can’t seem to stay out of the headlines, and the drama continues off the field. Amidst the ongoing T20 World Cup drama, the ongoing BPL has grabbed attention, and this time for the pitch conditions.

Since the tournament shifted to its Dhaka phase, both knockout games have been disappointing, with a low-scoring thriller. Frustration boiled over as Bangladesh players slammed the Mirpur pitch for its poor conditions.

Mirpur pitch under fire after low-scoring BPL games

In recent times, the Bangladesh Cricket is in the storm with both on-field and off-field issues. As their participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 is still under the clouds, another new worry has emerged. As the BPL 2026 has reached its knockout stage, the Shere Bangla National Stadium is hosting the clashes.

As the fans expected some nail-biting clashes, the Eliminator and Qualifier 1 have been low-scoring matches, as the batters struggle was clearly visible. In the Eliminator, the Titans edged out a tense three-wicket win over the Rangpur Riders while chasing just 112, leaving the Sylhet Strikers frustrated.

The picture remained the same in the Qualifier 1 clash as Chottogram Royals secured a place in the final while chasing a low 134-run target. With bowlers dominating both matches, batters struggled to find their footing on the tricky surface.

Mahedi Hasan voices frustration over the Mirpur pitch

The Mirpur stadium pitch has long been under fire, drawing criticism season after season. Even though Tony Hemming replaced the previous curator, Gamini de Silva, the woes remained the same. Voicing against the problem, Mahedi Hasan slammed the surface, saying that despite the change in curators, the concerns remain unchanged.

“The curator may have changed, but the wicket hasn’t. In reality, this was not a T20-style wicket,” Mahedi said. “It might have happened because a lot of cricket was played in Sylhet earlier. But we were hoping for a better surface this time. With the curator change, everyone expected a wicket more suitable for T20 cricket. That didn’t happen, and from that perspective, we are disappointed,” he said.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das follow the same path

It's not just Mahedi Hasan as veteran stars like Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das walked on the same path. Citing his opinion on this, Litton Das said, the surface is not suitable for the shortest format.

“This is not an ideal T20 wicket by any means. We expected a better surface for the qualifier. The pitch was very difficult, and both teams struggled,” Das said.

The side has always been helpful for the bowlers and the previous games were no exception. Batters of both sides struggled, and the bowlers enjoyed unreal success. Reflecting on the conditions, Shanto admitted the surface could have been much better for a more exciting contest.

“Look, if in a qualifier or a do-or-die match the wicket completely favours the bowlers, that’s not good for cricket. The surface should have been better so that the game could be played in a more balanced way,” Shanto said.

As the ongoing BPL 2026, two crucial matches are left. Both the Qualifier two and the final game are scheduled to be played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. As the concern is raising eyebrows, fans are eyeing some thrilling encounters.
