The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered a major injury blow against Mumbai Indians in their must-win IPL 2026 match in Kolkata. In-form wicketkeeper-batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi seemed to have hurt his hand during the Mumbai Indians innings, as the cricketer was spotted walking off the field.

The KKR team management was even forced to bring in a ‘Concussion Substitute’ for Angkrish, calling Tejasvi Dahiya for the run chase in match 65 of the tournament. Earlier, it was reported that Ramandeep Singh was in line to replace the injured stumper.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi replaced due to concussion protocols

The KKR team management recalled Tejasvi Dahiya as a ‘Concussion Substitute’ for Angkrish Raghuvanshi during their run chase against the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, May 20.

Earlier in the game, wicketkeeper Raghuvanshi seemingly hurt his hand during his botched catch attempt with teammate Varun Chakaravarthy. The cricketer subsequently walked off the field owing to his hand injury.

The incident occurred during the 11th over of the Mumbai Indians innings, when Tilak Varma top-edged Chakaravarthy high up in the air. With Chakaravarthy and Angkrish Raghuvanshi both converging, the two KKR cricketers suffered a nasty collision and handed Varma a timely reprieve.

Even at the time, the KKR franchise brought in Tejasvi Dahiya as the substitute wicketkeeper for the remainder of the Mumbai Indians innings.

Why Raghuvanshi’s injury is a big blow for KKR?

Angkrish Raghuvanshi has emerged as one of KKR’s most prolific batters this IPL 2026 season. With the franchise still holding an outside chance of securing a top four finish, Raghuvanshi’s injury could prove to be a significant setback to KKR’s playoff aspirations.

So far this season, the 22-year-old has aggregated 422 runs in just 12 innings at a prolific average of 42.20 and with a staggering strike rate of 146.52. The youngster has also plundered five half-centuries off late, including three in his last four innings with the bat.

His replacement Tejasvi Dahiya, on the other hand, will be making his IPL debut on the occasion. The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has previously played six T20 matches, all for the Delhi cricket team.
