Riyan Parag warns commentators amid IPL 2026 [Source: ChatGPT]
Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has fired a warning shot towards IPL commentators amidst the ongoing 2026 season. Shortly after his side secured a comprehensive win over LSG in match number 64 of the tournament in Jaipur, the 24-year-old urged commentators to talk strictly about cricket instead of resorting to personal criticism of players.
It is worth noting that Parag has found himself in the spotlight off late, albeit for all the wrong reasons. While the cricketer was recently called out for his controversial celebration upon reaching a half-century, he was also slapped with a hefty fine by the BCCI for the infamous ‘vaping’ incident.
Riyan Parag wants commentators to “talk about cricket”
Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag launched a sharp defense of his players after their comprehensive seven-wicket win over LSG in Jaipur on Tuesday, May 19. While he missed the match owing to an injury concern, the 24-year-old addressed the reporters during the post-match press conference.

He said that players try their best to put their best foot forward in every game, even though the efforts do not always translate into results.
Parag said “We perform according to the expectations of the crowd. So, I feel, we should all love cricket and look at it in the same way. Players are working very hard. It is very easy to say, if a team gets all out for 75 or 80, that they do not know how to play or have the mindset to play. But before that game, there is 3-4 days’ preparation to ensure how we can score 200-250. But sometimes it doesn’t happen.”
The youngster also urged commentators to strictly talk about cricket instead of resorting to personal criticism of players. He added “We are humans too and we make mistakes too. So, I feel, as much as it is happening outside, especially the commentators, their voices are reaching out to the people. I would request them to love cricket. Talk about cricket.”
Riyan Parag praises Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
Riyan Parag also heaped a significant praise on younger teammate and Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The 15-year-old took the LSG bowling attack to the cleaners with his scorching 93-run knock from just 38 balls.
Sooryavanshi launched seven boundaries and 10 sixes as the Royals made lightwork of LSG’s monumental 220-run total in Jaipur in match 64 of the IPL 2026 season.
Parag said “I think it was his best innings. When he was 5 off 10 or 11, there is always two ways to go. But he took his time. That first big shot off Mayank Yadav over covers gave me satisfaction that he may be small, but he has a larger understanding of the game.”
Rajasthan Royals remain in IPL 2026 playoffs contention
In the absence of injured skipper Riyan Parag, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal led the Rajasthan Royals in their must-win home game against the LSG. Winning the toss and opting to field first, his bowlers responded by conceding 220 runs from 20 overs to the visitors.
Mitchell Marsh himself clubbed 96 runs off just 57 balls, while fellow LSG opener Josh Inglis blasted 60 off 29.
Chasing 221, Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (93 off 38) and stand-in captain Yashasvi Jaiswal (43 off 23) raced to a 75-run partnership in just 6.3 overs. Dhruv Jurel at number three also compiled 53* from 38 balls as the Royals soared past LSG’s 221 in just 19.1 overs.
The outcome helped Rajasthan Royals remain in contention for the IPL 2026 playoffs race. They will now face Mumbai Indians in match 69 of the tournament on Sunday, May 24.
