Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced an unexpected change in the schedule of the upcoming multi-format series against India Women. The tour has been expanded by the addition of a T20I series.

India Women were originally scheduled to tour South Africa for a one-off Test clash and a 3-game ODI series in the month of December this year. However, months ahead of the face-off, CSA revised the schedule in a sudden move.

According to the latest reports, India Women’s tour of South Africa has been expanded by the addition of a 3-game T20I series. The T20I series will be played on December 26, 29 and 30.

Hence, now the tour covers all three international formats. Apparently, the revision has been made in the view of the upcoming inaugural edition of the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy 2027, which is to be played in the T20I format in Sri Lanka.

CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki said playing a strong team like India in all three formats would provide ideal preparation before the major ICC tournament. 

“We are delighted to confirm the revised schedule for India’s tour of South Africa, with the addition of the T20 International series over the festive period, ensuring our Proteas Women have the best possible preparation ahead of the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka early next year,” Moseki said.

He added that competing against one of the strongest teams in women's cricket across all three formats would offer South Africa the level of competition needed before another major ICC tournament.

“India remain one of the strongest teams in world cricket, and the opportunity to compete against them across all three formats will provide invaluable competition as we continue building towards another major ICC event,” he added.

India Women vs South Africa Women rivalry

Having said that, India Women and South Africa Women have developed a competitive rivalry in recent months. Earlier this year, India toured South Africa for a five-match T20I series but suffered a 4-1 defeat.

The Proteas also got the better of India during the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 group stage, where India failed to progress beyond the first round. 

South Africa, meanwhile, advanced to the semifinals before losing to eventual runners-up England. Hence, this series will revive their rivalry, and both teams are expected to put their best foot forward to prepare for the ultimate 2027 Champions Trophy challenge.

Updated schedule of the India Women tour of South Africa 2026

As per the updated itinerary, the India Women tour of South Africa will begin with the one-off Test at St. George's Park in Gqeberha from December 9 to 12.

The teams will then shift their focus to the ODI series, with matches scheduled in Paarl, Cape Town and Bloemfontein.

The tour will conclude with a three-match T20I series, beginning on Boxing Day (December 26) in Benoni before the final two matches are played on consecutive days in Potchefstroom on December 29 and 30.
