The opening day of the first Sri Lanka vs India Test got hampered with several rain interruptions. Overall, rains and bad light at the Galle International Stadium washed away as many as 17 overs of Day 1.
With only 73 overs worth of action possible on Day 1, Team India still managed to amass 288-2 after winning the toss courtesy of a sublime century from experimental number three Devdutt Padikkal.
In a bid to recover lost time and overs, the match officials have determined a revised start time for Day 2 of the series-opening Galle Test.

The Day 2 of the first Sri Lanka vs India Test match at the Galle International Stadium will start earlier than expected. As opposed to the scheduled start time of 10:00 AM in Sri Lanka, the second day’s action will commence from 9:45 AM onwards on Sunday, August 16.

A 15-minute advance start will help players to cover at least three overs worth of action, if not four, with match officials aiming to cover a 98-over day.
The initiative was undertaken in a bid to recover at least part of the 17 overs lost on the opening day of the Galle Test owing to rains and bad light.
Will weather permit 98 overs on Day 2?
The match officials may have set a revised start time of 9:45 AM on Day 2, but weather gods may foil their plans once again. Rain interruptions might threaten to disrupt play and prevent teams from completing the targeted 98 overs.
Moreover, findings from the AccuWeather indicate heavy rainfall just a couple of hours prior to the start of Day 2. There is also a forecast of overnight showers in the city.
In such a scenario, the wet outfield and dwindling weather conditions might force officials to delay Day 2 from its originally-scheduled time, let alone the revised time.
All in all, fans can expect another curtailed day on offer at the Galle International Stadium in Galle on Sunday, August 16.
