BCCI Punishes TNPL Star For Anti-Corruption Violation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalized a particular Ranji Trophy player based out of Tamil Nadu. Currently participating in the TNPL 2026 season, the said cricketer has also been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. 

The player has also been slapped with a fine of Rs. 1 lakh by the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) of the Indian board. 

BCCI ACSU bans player from TNPL 2026 season

As reported by the Indian Express, the BCCI has barred a particular player from participating in the remainder of the TNPL 2026 season. TNCA secretary U Bhagawandas Rao even stated that the officials have informed the franchise to not consider him for further selection, at least until the enquiry is over in relation to the cricketer’s anti-corruption violation.

Since this was the first instance of the player violating the BCCI anti-corruption code, he was fined Rs. 1 lakh by the ACSU. The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) will now determine if the player will be handed any additional punishment or not, after the association completes its own investigation into the matter. 

What did the player do during TNPL 2026?

The player was caught using a mobile phone in the Player and Match Officials Area (PMOA). The report indicates that the BCCI ACSU recovered the phone, which the player had not declared to any concerned official before using it. 

The incident occured during a TNPL 2026 match on August 10 at the NPR College ground in Dindigul’s Natham. The ACSU has conducted a probe and reported its findings to the Tamil Nadu state's cricket association.

The sources in the ACSU said “The player was confronted first but he could not explain the violation. He was served notice and asked to reply, which he did. His reply too was found unsatisfactory and thus a fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed on him.”

It is worth noting that the ACSU could not find any activity with the bookies in the mobile phone recovered from the TNPL cricketer. However, hiding a communication device from the authorities itself is a breach of BCCI’s anti-corruption protocols.

When Delhi Capitals and LSG officials used mobile phones in IPL 2026

In this year’s IPL 2026 season itself, two separate instances occurred where coaching staff members of franchises were caught using mobile phones in their team balcony. The first of those instances occurred at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on April 10, when Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder was using a phone while sitting next to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. 

Bhinder was seen using the mobile phone during match time, even though the BCCI rules strictly state that the use of electronic devises is prohibited as part of the “Minimum Standards for Players and Match Officials Areas” (PMOA).

A few weeks later, an individual sitting in the LSG dugout during the IPL 2026 season was also caught using a mobile phone, thus drawing intense backlash from Indian cricket fans.
