In a significant development, India have dealt a heavy blow as KL Rahul has picked up an injury. The right-handed batter suffered the injury right after tea on Day 1 of the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at The Galle Stadium. 

KL Rahul sufferd the injury on the 3rd ball of the first over bowled after tea, following which the physios arrived at the scene and asked the 34-year-old to leave the field and return to the pavillion.

KL Rahul Leaves Field In Pain; Further Participation In Doubt

Notably, the start of session 3 was delayed by a few minutes because KL Rahul had some discomfort in his forearm. The right-handed batter struggled with his hand even after Tea. Meanwhile, KL Rahul also picked up cramps, which made it impossible for him to continue.

KL Rahul struggled to even get off the pitch as he felt immense pain with each step he took to get back to the dressing room. The exact nature of KL Rahul's injury is unknown, but the India opener is struggling with multiple issues.

Notably, Rahul has also done damage to his left thigh it seems because he stumbled while climbing stairs to go back to the dressing room. During that moment, KL Rahul held his left thigh and the physio had to assist him to return to the pavillion.

KL Rahul Surrenders To Galle's Humid Weather

Galle is not an easy ground to bat on. Talking about the ongoing match, humidity is around 77% making it difficult to bat. Further, KL Rahul had an impressive day with the bat and missed out on a well deserving century.

When KL Rahul got retired hurt, he returned to the pavillion with a score of 77 (162). To face 162 deliveries in this humid condition is not easy and it seems that Rahul is suffering from serious cramps all across his body.

At the time of writing this article, India are in a comfortable position and put 239/2 on the board. So even if KL Rahul recovers, it is unlikely that the management ask him to bat further in the Test series.

  • Varun Chakravarthy (hamstring) 
  • Prince Yadav (hamstring)

Notably, for the ongoing series, Jasprit Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan were ruled out after they failed to recover from their respective injuries. Hence, the pressure is back on CoE, who is already under the scanner over their operations.
