Varun Chakaravarthy has suddenly become the center of attention amid Kolkata Knight Riders’ poor run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). While the three-time champions are already struggling with form and injuries, Varun’s recent cryptic social media post has added to the curiosity and concern among fans.
To begin with, KKR’s biggest problem this IPL season has been injuries. Key bowlers like Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, and Matheesha Pathirana are all ruled out or recovering.
Because of this, the bowling attack looks thin and unbalanced. Therefore, the IPL 2024 winners have not been able to perform consistently, and the pressure on available players has increased significantly.
KKR struggling to find form in IPL 2026
Meanwhile, captain Ajinkya Rahane is going through a tough phase. Although he is doing well with the bat, the team’s overall performance has not matched expectations.
It is important to note that KKR have managed to secure only one point so far, which came from a rain-affected game at Eden Gardens. Consequently, they are currently at the bottom of the points table with the NRR of -1.315. Due to these results, Rahane’s captaincy is now being closely questioned.

Right in the middle of all these issues, Varun Chakaravarthy shared an Instagram story saying, “The universe will not give you what you want.”
Although the exact meaning is unclear, many fans believe that this message could reflect his frustration. Moreover, since he has been out of the last two matches, people are speculating whether this post is indirectly aimed at team management or his current situation.
Therefore, this post has sparked talks of possible internal tension or disagreement within the KKR.

Varun Chakaravarthy recovering from a hand injury
Notably, Varun Chakaravarthy is currently recovering from a hand injury he suffered against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 2. As confirmed by Ajinkya Rahane during the IPL match against LSG, he is still not fully fit, which explains his absence from recent matches.
“Varun is still recovering from his hand injury," Ajinkya Rahane said during the toss.
Even when Varun has played, his performance has been below expectations. For instance, against Mumbai Indians, he conceded 48 runs without taking a wicket. In the following match as well against SRH, he remained wicketless and expensive, where Abhishek Sharma hit him for two big sixes and three fours in a single over.
Additionally, his struggles have carried on from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Although the Tamil Nadu spinner picked wickets, he was often expensive, especially against South Africa. Overall, in recent IPL matches, he has not been able to make a strong impact, which has further added to KKR’s problems.
Looking forward, KKR will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 14.
