World Cup honours aplenty for Mumbai icons
Over the past year-and-a-half, several Indian cricket teams have clinched ICC World Cup trophies. Incidentally, it was Mumbai teenager Ayush Mhatre who led the India U19 team to victory of the 2026 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. He was also accompanied by fellow Mumbai cricketer Abhigyan Kundu.
A couple of months later, another Mumbai icon, Suryakumar Yadav, led the Indian national side to a historic 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup win. Mumbai’s experienced all-rounder Shivam Dube was also one of the winning members of the team.
Women’s cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues played a key role in India’s 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup win on home soil. Mumbai youngster Sanika Chalke, meanwhile, served the India Women’s U19 team as its vice-captain in their victorious 2025 ICC Women’s U19 World Cup campaign in Malaysia last year.
