Mayank Yadav finally made his return to competitive cricket after an extensive injury layoff. Playing his first match of the IPL 2026 season, and LSG’s seventh of the tournament, the speedster ended up leaking runs at an expensive economy rate of 14 against the Rajasthan Royals.
Also bowling the final over of the Rajasthan Royals innings in match 32 of the IPL 2026 season in Lucknow, the young fast bowler got belted for 20 runs off just six deliveries by senior pro Ravindra Jadeja.
Following Mayank Yadav’s expensive return, a legion of fans took to X and criticized the 23-year-old for his underwhelming IPL record.

Mayank Yadav, despite being plagued with injuries, was retained by the LSG franchise for a staggering sum of Rs. 11 crores prior to the IPL 2026 auction. While the cricketer attained full recovery for the warm-up phase of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup earlier this year, the 23-year-old still spent his time on the sidelines during LSG’s first six matches of the IPL 2026 season.

Making his return for LSG against the Rajasthan Royals on April 22 in Lucknow, the tearaway fast bowler conceded expensive bowling figures of 0-56 in his four overs. Mayank Yadav’s expensive return to IPL 2026 prompted several fans to make hilarious memes at the expense of the ‘over-hyped bowler’, with many users looking back at his past record.

While Mayank Yadav struggled to put a lid on Rajasthan Royals scoring rate, the speedster retained his usual pace as evidenced by his bowling speeds. He constantly crossed the 150kph barrier, and even earned a significant praise from former West Indies fast bowler and prominent commentator Ian Bishop.

Taking to X, Bishop defended Yadav’s expensive returns by writing “Doesn’t matter about his bowling figures. What matters is that Mayank Yadav is on the park tonight. He has regularly gotten up to 150kph in this game already. Mohsin Khan fit, Prince Yadav firing. LSG are fortunate to have them being led by Shami.”
Rajasthan Royals recover to 159-6
Getting invited to bat first, Rajasthan Royals slipped to 32-3, and to 77-5 before charting a competitive total of 159-6 in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja top-scored in the innings by cracking 43* off just 29 balls. The all-rounder struck 20 of those runs off the final six deliveries against Mayank alone.
It is worth noting that Yadav himself conceded figures of 0-56 to maintain an economy rate of 14, in an innings where the next most expensive figures were recorded by Mohammed Shami with his tight four-over spell of 2-30.
Prince Yadav (2-29) and Mohsin Khan (2-17) also picked up two wickets each in the innings, as Mayank alone leaked more than a third of Rajasthan Royals total off his bowling.
