Rishabh Pant seems to be at his impervious best behind the stumps for the LSG against the Rajasthan Royals in match number 32 of the IPL 2026 season. Leading his side at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the seasoned pro held on to a couple of smart catches, both off Mohammed Shami to dismiss Yashasvi Jaiswal and visiting skipper Riyan Parag off successive deliveries.

The catch he claimed to dismiss Jaiswal, in particular, stood out to rank among the best wicketkeeper’s catches of the season. Pant’s agility, coupled with Mohammed Shami’s new ball hostility, jolted Rajasthan Royals early in the innings after home skipper won the toss and opted to field first.

Rishabh Pant leaps in the air as LSG rock Royals early

LSG captain and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant held on to a sharp catch in the third over of the match against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday, April 22. As it happened, the LSG fast bowler ruffled Jaiswal with a scorching bouncer, only for the left-handed opener to glove the ball towards Pant.

The senior stumper jumped high up in the air, thus leaving up to his ‘Spider-Man’ nickname, and held on to the ball with the tip of his right hand.

The very next ball, Pant took another sharp catch, this time to get rid of his Rajasthan Royals counterpart Riyan Parag for a duck as Mohammed Shami struck twice in the space of two deliveries.

Summing up Pant’s topsy-turvy season with the bat

While Rishabh Pant seems to be going great guns behind the stumps, the senior wicketkeeper-batter has endured a topsy-turvy IPL 2026 season with the bat. Out of his six innings so far this season, the cricketer has been dismissed four times inside the 20-run mark, which included a dreadful single against the RCB last week.

Between his failures, Pant punched out a fighting 68* against the SRH on April 5 in Hyderabad to cap a dramatic last-over finish for his side. The 28-year-old also composed a valiant 43 against the Punjab Kings a few days ago, albeit in vain.

Overall, the senior pro has aggregated 147 runs in six innings of the IPL 2026 season at an average of 29.40.

Rishabh Pant’s LSG facing must-win scenario

Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, the LSG franchise has lost four out of its six matches this IPL 2026 season. With just two wins, the franchise is currently ranked number ninth on the 10-team points table with mere four points and a dismal NRR of -1.173.

In a bid to climb up the ladder and remain in contention for the playoffs, it is imperative for the LSG to defeat the Rajasthan Royals in Lucknow on April 22. A win at this stage of the tournament will help them gain two rungs at least, if not more courtesy of an NRR boosting win.
