Suryakumar Yadav led the Indian cricket team to a historic win at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at home earlier this year. The cricketer also punched out a match-winning knock in India’s opening Group game against the USA.

However, the seasoned pro was instantly dropped from the Indian team owing to his lacklustre returns with the bat, especially during the business end of the ICC T20 spectacle.

Suryakumar also had a below-par IPL 2026 season with the Mumbai Indians, averaging just 20.76 in 13 innings.

With BCCI dropping the cricketer and appointing Shreyas Iyer as new captain, a quote attributed to Suryakumar has been circulated online where the 35-year-old is seemingly accusing the selectors of lying to him.

Here, we take a look at the exact quote and whether the Mumbai Indians legend actually made those remarks.

Did Suryakumar Yadav accuse BCCI of ‘disrespecting’ him?

Several unverified social media reports claimed that Suryakumar Yadav has accused the BCCI of ‘lying’ to him and ‘disrespecting’ him after getting dropped.

In a trending quote, the cricketer was attributed with saying the BCCI assured him of continuing as India captain after the T20 World Cup, only to drop him from the team altogether.

The reports claimed that Suryakumar accused the BCCI of not giving him the respect he deserved for winning the World Cup earlier this year in Ahmedabad

The quote, however, is entirely fake. Suryakumar himself debunked the viral claim, confirming that he never made those remarks about the BCCI or the selectors.

Taking to his Instagram account on Tuesday, July 7, the cricketer wrote, “I’ve noticed a statement being circulated online that has been falsely attributed to me. I want to make it clear that I have not made or authorised any such statement. Please don’t believe or share unverified information.”

Suryakumar Yadav puts a special word for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Rising star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is one of the members of the new-look Indian team in its post-Suryakumar era. The 15-year-old was handed a place in the Indian squad for the T20I tours of Ireland and England after he won the coveted ‘Orange Cap’ in this year’s IPL 2026.

The former skipper praised the youngster and also extended his full support for the new-look Indian side.

The cricketer wrote, “I’m very happy for the team and wish them nothing but the very best, always. I know the boys are giving it their all, and they will always have my full support. A special word for Vaibhav – you’re at the start of what promises to be a very exciting journey. Enjoy every moment and keep making the country proud.”

What’s next for Suryakumar Yadav?

Suryakumar Yadav was not only dropped from India’s T20I squad for the tours of Ireland and England, but the cricketer is also not listed in the 2026 Asian Games ensemble

After going through an underwhelming IPL 2026 season for the Mumbai Indians, where he aggregated only 270 runs in 13 innings, the 35-year-old led the Triumph Knights Mumbai North East team in the Mumbai T20 2026 season.

Under his leadership, the team registered just one win and sustained four losses from five games to finish seventh on the eight-side points table.

As of now, it remains to be seen when Suryakumar Yadav will return to action. However, he is expected to represent Mumbai in this year’s domestic season.
