The star Indian all-rounder, Hardik Pandya, alongside other batters, failed to live up to the expectations as India faced a humiliating 76-run defeat against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026’s Super-8 game. Hardik Pandya could score just 18 runs off 17 balls, with only one six.
Meanwhile, what caught the attention of the fans was Pandya’s dismissal on the first ball of the 15th over, when South Africa’s Tristan Stubbs caught him on the fence in a spectacular effort. Following the completion of the catch, Tristan Stubbs was seen hurling abuses, which left the fans assuming it was Hardik Pandya.

The video of Tristan Stubbs’ reaction after the catch is also making the rounds on social media, shared by a user on X (formerly Twitter). Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya’s girlfriend, Mahieka Sharma, was also caught clapping on camera after the dismissal.

But what could have been missed by the fans in this viral video is the categorical clarification of commentators on air after Tristan Stubbs completed the boundary-line catch.
The commentators made it clear that Tristan Stubbs was fuming at the spider cam, which had made it hard for him to assess the ball's direction.

India’s semi-final hopes face severe dent after humiliation against SA
Speaking of India’s campaign in the tournament’s current edition, their semi-final hopes have faced a severe blow after the hard-hitting defeat against South Africa in their first Super-8 game.
This defeat has pushed the holders down to a miserable net run rate of -3.800, leaving them in a do-or-die situation in their remaining two Super-8 matches against Zimbabwe and West Indies.
The Men in Blue will take on Zimbabwe in their next Super-8 fixture on Thursday, February 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. It will be followed by their last Super-8 contest against the two-time World T20 Champions, West Indies, at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1.
To stay in contention for a spot in the tournament’s knockout stage, the qualification scenario for Suryakumar Yadav’s men has fallen into the complications. Now, they have to beat Zimbabwe and the West Indies by larger margins than in the next two Super-8 assignments.
Besides that, their qualification scenario will also depend on the results of the games South Africa will play. If the Proteas win all of their remaining matches in the Super-8 stage, it will make it easy for India.
