Mahedi Hasan missed T20 World Cup 2026 due to ‘Bangladesh’ controversy
Notably, Mahedi Hasan was set to play for Bangladesh after his name was announced in the squad ahead of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. But his wish to represent the country took a big hit as Bangladesh were ruled out of the tournament after failing to negotiate the ‘India visit’ talks with the ICC and BCCI.
Bangladesh had already announced their squad before their unexpected exit from the current edition of the tournament. Litton Das was named skipper to lead the side in the T20 World Cup 2026.
Bangladesh cricket suffers due to Politics
Speaking of the entire controversy between Bangladesh and the ICC, the BCCI, it all started when the BCCI asked the IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders, to release the veteran Bangladesh pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, from their IPL squad, amid rising anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh.
In the same vein, the Bangladesh Cricket Board sparked a new fire when it refused to visit India for T20 World Cup 2026, citing security concerns for its team.
Subsequently, ICC had to intervene to resolve this issue, and the deadlock persisted as the Bangladesh Cricket Board said its government was not ready to send the team to India for the marquee international tournament.
This entire controversy resulted in Bangladesh’s ouster from the tournament. ICC further replaced the South Asian team with Scotland, who joined the T20 World Cup at the last moment, just a few days before the tournament started.
