MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh are two of the biggest names in Indian cricket. However, their names have often been discussed together because of the strong accusations made by Yuvraj Singh’s father, former India cricketer Yograj Singh.
For many years, Yograj has openly blamed former India captain MS Dhoni for dropping his son from the national team. However, recently, former BCCI chief selector Sandeep Patil shared a different perspective on the issue. His comments have added a new and unexpected twist to this long-running debate.
Yograj Singh’s strong criticism
Over the years, Yograj Singh has continued to speak strongly about what happened to his son. According to Yograj Singh, the treatment Yuvraj received during that period was unfair and cannot be forgotten.
During a recent appearance on the Switch YouTube channel, Yograj once again expressed his anger toward MS Dhoni. Yograj Singh said, "I won't forgive MS Dhoni. He should look at himself in the mirror. He is a very prominent cricketer, I salute him. But what he did to my son is unforgivable. Everything is coming to light now, and it can never be forgiven."
Furthermore, Yograj also spoke about what he believes Yuvraj could have achieved if he had been given more chances to play. He said, "That man has ruined my son's life, who could have played for four to five more years. I challenge everyone to have a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said that there will never be another Yuvraj Singh."
Clearly, these emotional statements reflect the pride and pain of a father who strongly believes his son deserved a longer career with the Indian team.

Ex-BCCI selector Sandeep Patil’s clarification
However, former BCCI chief selector Sandeep Patil has now shared a completely different version of events. While speaking on The Vicky Lalwani Show on YouTube, Patil strongly rejected the claim that MS Dhoni was responsible for dropping Yuvraj Singh from the team.
He stated, “Not even once, during selection meetings, on tours, or during matches, did Mahendra Singh Dhoni tell us to drop Yuvraj Singh. I’m saying this clearly on record.”
Moreover, Patil explained that Dhoni had full trust in the selection committee and never tried to influence their decisions. “Dhoni had complete faith in the selection committee. He never tried to influence our decisions,” he said.
“A father naturally feels strongly about his son. That’s understandable. But in this case, the blame is being directed at the wrong person,” Patil added.
Yuvraj Singh’s inspiring career
Despite the controversy, Yuvraj Singh remains one of the most talented and impactful cricketers of his generation. Throughout his career, he was known for his ability to win matches for India in crucial moments.
It is important to note that he played a key role in India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2007. In addition, he was one of the most important players during India’s historic 2011 World Cup win. During that tournament, Yuvraj delivered outstanding performances and was awarded the Man of the Series.
What makes his achievement even more remarkable is the fact that he was secretly battling a cancerous tumour in his lungs during the World Cup. After the tournament, he underwent treatment and successfully fought the disease.
Eventually, he returned to international cricket, showing incredible determination, and later, in 2019, he announced his retirement from cricket at the age of 37.
