Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) enigma machine Digvesh Rathi made instant impact for his franchise in match number 19 of the IPL 2026 season. Tasked to bowl the final over of the powerplay by his captain KL Rahul against the Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, the cricketer deceived well-set opener Sai Sudharsan off the first ball of his spell.
Notably, Rathi also brought out his infamous ‘notebook’ celebration after taking the wicket as he ‘signed’ Sudharsan off the crease.
Digvesh Rathi brings the ‘notebook’ against Gujarat Titans
Chasing 165 for a win, Gujarat Titans raced to 45-0 after the first five overs, with both openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan getting well settled at the crease. Desperate to get wicket, LSG captain Rishabh Pant introduced his ace spinner Digvesh Rathi into the attack to bowl the final over of the powerplay.

Rathi, who seemingly sent down one of his worst deliveries, managed to pick up a wicket of Sudharsan courtesy of the latter’s loose shot towards Avesh Khan at fine leg.
The LSG spinner, celebrating the first Titans wicket of the innings on the first ball of his spell, got down on his haunches and brought out the infamous ‘notebook’ to commemorate the occasion. The cricketer even mockingly ‘signed’ the name of Sai Sudharsan on the floor-cum-notebook as the Titans opener was making his way back to the sheds at 45-1.
Digvesh Rathi’s unpleasant history with ‘notebook’
Digvesh Rathi made his IPL debut last year for the LSG franchise. Notably, playing his first IPL season, the cricketer was rapped thrice by match officials in the tournament, all because he refused to let go of his infamous ‘notebook’ send-off to batters.
At one stage of the season, Rathi even had a run-in with Indian international and explosive SRH opener Abhishek Sharma. Moreover, the ace LSG spinner was banned by officials for a match for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

Prior to LSG’s opening match of the IPL 2026 season, Rathi teased the return of the controversial celebration.

While speaking with ESPNCricinfo, the cricketer said “That was my first year and I didn't know the expectations. I didn't intend to disrespect anyone then and neither do I want to now. But nobody can stop me from celebrating. If a batter can celebrate after scoring a hundred by putting their helmet on top of their bat and so on, then I can celebrate too.”
LSG chart 164 in 20 overs upfront
Batting first, the LSG franchise charted 164-8 in 20 overs upfront in match number 19 of the IPL 2026 season at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Opening batter Aiden Markram top-scored in the innings with his mere 30-run act.
With as many as seven LSG batters aggregating scores of between 10 and 20, the innings did not really feature any notable contribution from any player. For the Titans, senior fast bowler Prasidh Krishna picked up exceptional bowling figures of 4-28.
