Digvesh Rathi is one of the most intriguing mystery spinners to emerge from India’s domestic circuit in recent years. A right-arm leg-spinner with an unconventional action, Rathi grabbed attention for his ability to disguise deliveries by hiding the ball during his run-up—a trait reminiscent of Sunil Narine. 

Representing Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League and Delhi in domestic cricket, he has quickly built a reputation as a wicket-taking option in T20 cricket.

Digvesh Rathi’s Early Life & Background

Born in Delhi, Digvesh Rathi grew up in one of India’s most competitive cricketing ecosystems. Like many Delhi cricketers, he progressed through club cricket and local tournaments, where his unusual bowling action first caught attention. His exposure as a net bowler—reportedly around IPL environments—played a key role in shaping his skills, especially his variation-based approach inspired by mystery spinners.

Rathi has built his domestic reputation almost entirely through the T20 format, making his rise one of the most unconventional in Indian cricket. Unlike many peers, he bypassed traditional age-group pathways and carved his journey through corporate cricket, local leagues, and IPL net-bowling opportunities.

His official domestic breakthrough came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he made his debut for the Delhi cricket team on 29 November 2024 against Manipur at the Wankhede Stadium. 

The 2025–26 season marked his transition from a debutant to a regular member of the Delhi T20 setup. Operating mainly in the middle overs, he picked up 7 wickets in 5 matches while maintaining a tight economy rate of around 7.50. His control, combined with deceptive variations, made him a dependable option in pressure situations.

While these numbers reflect consistency rather than explosiveness, his real value lies in his ability to outthink batters through his “mystery” action.

Digvesh Rathi’s IPL Career

Digvesh Singh Rathi made a rapid transition from local T20 leagues to the grand stage of the Indian Premier League, establishing himself as one of the most exciting “mystery” spinners in the circuit.

His IPL journey began in 2025, when Lucknow Super Giants secured his services for INR 30 lakh at the mega auction, following his standout performances in the Delhi Premier League. Despite being relatively unknown at the national level, Rathi wasted no time making an impact.

Throughout the 2025 season, Rathi impressed with his wicket-taking ability, finishing with 14 wickets in 13 matches.

However, his debut campaign wasn’t without controversy. His now-famous “notebook celebration,” where he mimicked ticking off batters, drew the attention of match officials. He was fined multiple times for breaching the code of conduct and was eventually suspended for one match, forcing him to tone down his celebrations.

Heading into the 2026 season, Rathi was retained by Lucknow Super Giants, a clear indication of the franchise’s trust in his abilities.
