Ishan Kishan creates unwanted record [Source: AFP]
The Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a massive jolt before the start of IPL 2026 as regular captain, Pat Cummins was ruled out for an indefinite period due to a back injury. Cummins has been nursing the injury since last year, and he even missed the majority of the Ashes and the entire T20 World Cup.
As a result, SRH needed a new captain for the start of IPL 2026, and the management hand-picked Ishan Kishan. The Jharkhand batter had a terrific T20 World Cup for India, and he was even riding high on confidence.
However, filling in Cummins’ shoes was a monumental task for Kishan, and 6 games into the new season, and the SRH skipper has done a decent job of leading a power-packed side. Under him, the Orange Army has won two and lost three matches, but Kishan’s captaincy has been appreciated.
Kishan attains unwanted captaincy feat in IPL 2026
SRH took on CSK in their sixth IPL match of the season, and during the toss, captain Kishan attained an unfortunate feat, which might take time to be broken.
He lost yet another toss in the IPL 2026, and with that, the left-handed batter created an unwanted captaincy feat, which has happened for the first time. He became the first in IPL history to lose each of his first six tosses as a captain.
The coin flip has not gone in Kishan's favour as the Orange Army leader has failed to call it right on all six occasions.

SRH's record under Ishan Kishan's leadership
SRH started the IPL 2026 with a crushing defeat at the hands of RCB. The team lost a plethora of wickets early, and despite Kishan’s brilliance, RCB chased down the target inside 16 overs.
The side then crawled back with a big win over the struggling KKR side, and it was followed by a close defeat against LSG, and PBKS.
The former IPL champions then snapped their two-game losing streak by defeating RR in a one-sided battle. In five games played before the CSK match, SRH have won two, and lost three under Kishan.

Captaincy has evolved Kishan's batting in IPL 2026
Normally, captaincy puts pressure on a player, and they crumble under it. However, that has not been the case with Kishan, who has done well with the bat, barring the ongoing clash against the Super Kings.
In the IPL 2026 match vs CSK, Kishan was dismissed for a golden duck, but apart from that, he has been terrific. In six matches, he has accumulated 213 runs, with an average of 35.50, and a strike rate of 188.50.
Last season for SRH, Kishan was inconsistent, as he scored a hundred on his SRH debut, but then failed to deliver the goods. However, in the ongoing campaign, things have changed as Kishan has upped his game under his leadership and has already played a couple of key knocks under pressure.
