A CSK overseas star has been ruled out of their opening match of the IPL 2026 season. The Mumbai Indians franchise has attained a significant all-time world record. In other news, KKR legendary all-rounder Sunil Narine has achieved a landmark figure by going up against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Sunday, March 29.

Dewald Brevis ruled out of CSK’s opening match of IPL 2026

Firebrand South Africa batter Dewald Brevis has been ruled out of CSK’s opening match of the IPL 2026 season. The 22-year-old has suffered a side strain in the lead-up to the tournament. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming has confirmed that Brevis is currently rehabilitating and will be expected to attain full recovery soon.

The youngster has now joined franchise veteran MS Dhoni, who has also been ruled out of the playing XI for the initial stage of the IPL 2026 season. CSK’s opening match will be played against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30.

RCB’s Nuwan Thushara fails fitness test

Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has failed a mandatory fitness test organized by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). For the time being, he has been denied a no-objection certificate (NoC) by his board. Scheduled to reprise his role for the RCB franchise in the ongoing IPL 2026 season, Thushara’s recent setback makes him a doubtful starter for the tournament.

However, the 31-year-old can still make it to the RCB squad in time, if he clears his next attempt. So far, the speedster has failed two fitness tests and scored 17 out of 29 points on offer in his latest test.

Sunil Narine scripts huge IPL record in 2026 season

Sunil Narine took field for the KKR franchise in their opening match of the IPL 2026 season against the Mumbai Indians at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Through his latest inclusion, the experienced West Indies all-rounder became the most-capped overseas player in the history of the IPL, going past Kieron Pollard’s 189 matches.

It is worth noting that Narine made his IPL debut back in 2012, and has remained a part of the KKR setup since then. In 187 innings, the right-arm off-spinner has picked up 192 wickets and has also scored 1,780 runs at a staggering strike rate of 166.51.

Mumbai Indians becomes first franchise to play 300 matches

Mumbai Indians has become the first franchise-based team in the history of the sport to play 300 T20 matches. The franchise attained the feat by going up against KKR in their opening match of the IPL 2026 season.

Mumbai Indians’ landmark game, however, turned out to be an evening of nightmare for their bowlers at the Wankhede Stadium. Bowling first, the hosts conceded 220 runs in 20 overs to the visiting KKR side after captain Hardik Pandya had the toss.

Matheesha Pathirana yet to receive fitness clearance

With KKR facing uncertainty over the availability of Sri Lanka fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, the situation now seems even more complicated for his return. It is worth noting that the speedster suffered a hamstring injury while playing for Sri Lanka at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Pathirana is yet to receive his fitness clearance or an NoC from SLC in a bid to fly to India and play for the KKR franchise in the IPL 2026 season.
