Zimbabwe’s footprint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been sporadic yet significant, marked by a handful of players who have made their presence felt on the grand stage. Notably, the proud African cricketing nation had representation right from the inaugural edition of the tournament. And yet, only five Zimbabwe cricketers have featured in the competition so far.

The opening weekend of the IPL 2026 season marked the latest of those opportunities, as a certain fast bowling superstar from Zimbabwe has now deservingly earned a chance to shine in the world’s biggest T20 league. Here is a look at all five Zimbabwe cricketers who have played in the IPL.

1. Tatenda Taibu

Former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu fittingly became the first cricketer from his country to bag an IPL contract, doing so back during the inaugural edition of 2008. Aged 25 at the time, the experienced wicketkeeper-batter was roped in by the KKR franchise for a sum of Rs. 50 lakhs.

Taibu even played three matches for the team, but managed to aggregate just 31 runs in three innings at a dismal average of 10.33 and with a strike rate of 119.23. KKR’s campaign also seemingly mirrored the Zimbabwean’s underwhelming numbers, as the franchise managed to secure just six wins from 14 matches to finish sixth on the eight-team points table.

2. Ray Price

It took another three years for Zimbabwe to see representation in the IPL again, with left-arm spinner Ray Price joining Mumbai Indians for the 2011 season. By the time he earned his maiden IPL pay cheque, Price already held some elite experience of playing international cricket for Zimbabwe for over 10 years.

The Harare-born player made his international debut in December 1999, and ended up bagging nearly 200 wickets for his country throughout his 140-match career. Unfortunately for Ray Price, his stint in the IPL proved to be a brief one, as he featured in just a single match during the entire 2011 season and went wicketless in his only outing.

3. Brendan Taylor

Zimbabwe’s attacking wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor was acquired by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise for the 2014 edition of the IPL. With a current international aggregate of over 10,000 runs and a veteran of nearly 200 T20 matches, Taylor was also one of the most experienced campaigners from the Zimbabwe national team at the time.

Despite his credentials, the cricketer failed to receive a single crack in the SRH playing XI throughout the IPL 2026 season. He was released by the franchise ahead of the following season in 2015.

4. Sikandar Raza

Zimbabwe captain and T20 globe-trotter Sikandar Raza remains the most capped cricketer, and by far the most successful player from his country in the IPL. He played nine matches, all for the Punjab Kings franchise, spread across the 2023 and the 2024 editions of the tournament.

He aggregated 182 runs in the process from nine innings at an average of 26 and with an astonishing strike rate of 133.82. One of the most defining moments of his IPL career occurred during match 41 of the IPL 2023 season, where his last-ball triple within small Chepauk boundaries helped Punjab Kings pull off a 201-run heist against the CSK.

5. Blessing Muzarabani

Lanky paceman Blessing Muzarabani became Zimbabwe’s only fifth cricketer to play in the IPL, doing so when he made his debut for the KKR franchise in the opening weekend of the IPL 2026 season. The speedster took on Mumbai Indians in match number two of the tournament at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Notably, Muzarabani was roped in by the KKR as a replacement for ousted Bangladesh paceman Mustafizur Rahman. His inclusion was also highly justified, considering the Zimbabwe fast bowler recently bagged 13 wickets in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
