Rohit Sharma and KKR are a beautiful love story, and one that has been going on for ages. The Mumbai Indians batter loves to play at the Eden Gardens, KKR’s home ground, and at the same time, he loves to score runs against them (be it home or away).
Ahead of the IPL 2026 match between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rohit, the MI opener, had a great chance to break a historic record against his favourite IPL rival. Over the years, Rohit has shattered multiple records in the tournament, and on Sunday, he attained another milestone.
Rohit Sharma dethrones Warner to create history vs KKR
Before the match on Sunday, Rohit Sharma needed 10 runs to become the IPL player with the most runs against KKR. He had 1083 runs and was at the touching distance of the historic milestone.
The right-handed batter eventually attained the milestone by scoring 10 runs, and he surpassed David Warner (1093), who was previously the highest run-scorer against the former three-time IPL winners. Rohit broke the record in his 36th match against the Knight Riders, as he averages 38 and strikes at 127 against them.
Against the former IPL winners, KKR, Rohit has struck six fifties, and also has a solitary century to his name. Interestingly, he is only the third IPL player to score more than 1,000 runs vs KKR, with the other two being David Warner, and Virat Kohli.

The former MI captain has played 273 IPL matches and has scored the second-most runs in tournament history (7066),with an average of 29, and a strike-rate of 132.19.

Rohit set to play IPL 2026 as first-team player
Last season, Rohit had a niggle and the MI team management mostly used him as an impact sub. He only batted for the side and was replaced when MI used to bowl.
There were doubts that Rohit would once again be benched during Mumbai’s bowling in IPL 2026, but the management decided something else.
The coaching department revealed that Rohit will not play as an impact player and will also be used as a fielder in all the games that Mumbai will play in IPL 2026.
