Just two days into the IPL 2026 season, and we have already witnessed early catches of the tournament contenders. First, it was RCBโs Phil Salt, who defied gravity to pluck a couple of stunners against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, and on Sunday, the IPL fans were treated to yet another world-class grab, this time by a KKR player.
In the clash between the Mumbai Indians and the KKR at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the Knight Riders posted a healthy 220/4, but the two Mumbai openers, Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton, came out all guns blazing.
On a flat Wankhede wicket, the duo took down the KKR attack right from the word go, as the boundary floodgates opened, and the pair added 148 runs inside 12 overs. Rohit had raced away to a 23-ball fifty, and KKR needed a miracle to dismiss him.

The miracle was produced by pacer Vaibhav Arora, who was taken to the cleaners by Rohit, but the bowler had the last laugh as the dismissal required a special catch from Anukul Roy.
Vaibhav bowled a low full toss as Rohit miscued his slog and the ball took the aerial route. For a brief second, it looked as if the ball would land in no manโs land, but that is when Anukul Roy came to life as he sprinted back from mid-on position, and stretched with his attempted dive to grab one of the best catches in IPL.

Rohit, the way he was playing was eyeing a hundred against KKR, but Anukul ensured that at least the franchise had something to smile about as he took a stunner to dismiss the legendary MI batter.

On the opening day of the IPL 2026, it was RCBโs Phil Salt who set the fielding standards high with two incredible catches. First, he plucked a stunner on the boundary line to dismiss the dangerous Ishan Kishan. He came charging in and took a brilliant running catch to leave the SRH batter in shock.
Salt also took a brilliantly judged catch to send Heinrich Klaasen back to the pavilion. If anyone felt the two catches couldnโt have been topped, the KKR fielder, Anukul impressed everyone with his athleticism as he ran backwards and took a blinder.
His catch of Rohit Sharma will certainly be one of the contenders for the IPL 2026 catch of the tournament.

Before the MI opener was sent back, he made sure KKR were pushed on the back foot in a tricky chase. Needing 221 to start the IPL season with a win, the former captain took the early charge as he belted the KKR bowlers to all parts of the Wankhede Stadium.
He spared no one as the opener smashed his fifty in just 23 deliveries, which turned out to be his fastest in the IPL. He smacked 6 fours and equal number of sixes before the KKR fielder decided to dismiss him.
