In a significant development, the toss for all-important match between MI and RR has been delayed due to rain. The two teams were set to lock horns at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, but the rain interruption has killed the buzz.
It has been raining since afternoon in Guwahati and at the time of writing, the ground is still witnessing slight drizzle. Further, dark clouds loom over the Barsapara Stadium. The toss for Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals match was scheduled for 7:00 pm, but it has now been delayed due to wet outflied.

Things are not looking good in Guwahati at the moment. There is an yellow alert for heavy rain and lightning. According to accuweather, around two hours of rain is predicted, making it difficult for the match to start on time.
IPL too took to Twitter to officially update fans about the extreme weather conditions in Guwahati. It added that the toss has also been dealyed, resulting in a delayed start.
Rain To Abandon MI vs RR IPL 2026 Match?
At present things are not looking good. As mentioned above, there is around two hours of rain predicted. Interestingly, the rain had stopped for around 30 minutes around 6 pm, but slight drizzle returned, resulting in the delay. Notably, there is 87% chances of heavy rain.

There is 44% cloud cover and 52% thunderstorm. Also, rain is not the only threat to the game as there is lightning and conditions are not safe for players to step out on the ground. At present, it seems like that the match is likely to get abandoned without a ball bowled because the weather is going to get bad from here on.

Rain Hampers 2nd IPL 2026 Match In A Row
The fans are disappointed because it is the second straight game of the season to get hampered due to rain. On Monday, April 6, KKR vs PBKS was also abandoned shortly after the game started.

Notably, KKR, batting first, played 3.4 overs and were in a troubling situation which is when the rain interrupted the game. After the match, PBKS topped the table with 5 points in three matches.
Further, KKR too earned their first point of the season but continue to remain winless in the tournament. Now, if MI vs RR match also gets washed out, then RR will go on top of the table with 5 points. MI, on the other hand, will have 3 points and remain out of the top-four.
Update: The latest update is that the covers came off but the rain has intensified again.
