At just 15, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has taken the cricket world by storm with his aggressive batting. The left-handed batter finished as the highest run-getter in IPL 2026, and he made a name for himself at the international stage with a stellar T20I series against Zimbabwe recently.
Some of the biggest names in world cricket played in the IPL, but Sooryavanshi hogged the limelight with his extraordinary batting. He has produced sensational performances despite still being a teenager, and outside India, people are still curious about his age, and many believe he is not 15.
Former Australian pacer Brett Lee has come to Sooryavanshi’s defence as he reckons that his exact age shouldn’t overshadow what the batter has achieved in such a short span of time.

Speaking on the BeerBiceps YouTube channel, Lee stated that due to people regularly questioning Sooryavanshi's real age, they miss out on his astonishing ability to take down any attack in the world.
“He is incredible. Everyone offshore, away from India, asks the question if he’s 15,” Lee said, adding that whether Sooryavanshi is 15, 17 or 18, his cricketing ability remains the most important factor.

Lee was impressed with how Sooryavanshi has the ability to deliver against express pace, citing his brilliant 97 against SRH in IPL 2026.
“He was up against Aussie bowlers. They were bowling gas, and he was hooking them off his nose,” Lee said.
Lee was talking about the RR Vs SRH IPL 2026 match, where the left-handed star went berserk as he took down the SRH attack with utmost ease. He smashed 97 off just 29 balls, with a strike rate of 334.48.
In the same game, Australian bowler Pat Cummins was taken to the cleaners by the young batter as the right-arm pacer conceded 64 runs in 4 overs.
Lee reveals Sooryavanshi's biggest challenge
At the same time, the former Australian speedster, Brett Lee stated that Sooryavanshi has already become a big name at the international level, and his biggest challenge won’t be his batting, but the handling of mental pressure that comes with great responsibility.
“He still has to be a kid. Let him be a kid and don’t put too much pressure,” Lee said, as he wants the youngster to be protected as he rises rapidly.
Sooryavanshi's rapid rise as teenager debuts for India at 15
The left-handed batter from Samastipur first hogged the limelight when the Rajasthan Royals bought him for 1.10 crore in the 2025 mega auction. He was developed carefully by the franchise before the batter finally made his debut midway through IPL 2025.
The 15-year-old played just seven games in 2025, and smashed 252 runs, with a strike rate of 206.56. He was retained for IPL 2026, and this is when the world witnessed the real Sooryavanshi.
The youngster smashed 776 runs, with a strike rate of 237, and it included five fifties and a solitary hundred. He finished as the tournament’s leading run-getter and swept away numerous awards.
The selectors took notice of his extraordinary skills, and he was immediately drafted into the Indian T20I squad for the UK tour, where he made his debut in the second T20I Vs England.
While his debut series didn’t go as planned, Sooryavanshi repaid selectors’ faith in him by delivering the goods in the Zimbabwe tour as he helped the team win the series.
