Hardik Pandya may have endured three consecutive average IPL seasons, but there is no doubt that he still remains the best Indian all-rounder in the entire league. Before joining the Mumbai Indians for a second stint, Hardik was a hot commodity, but things changed once he rejoined the team in 2024.

Under his leadership, the Mumbai Indians failed to qualify for the playoffs in two of the three seasons, and moreover, Hardik’s own performances worsened as the team got badly affected. As a result, rumours have circulated that MI are planning to offload their captain in a trade deal with other IPL franchises.

If they can somehow convince Hardik to step down from the captaincy post, that could do wonders, as the all-rounder, can then solely concentrate on his all-round skills, rather than thinking about the captaincy pressure.

• None of the other all-rounders (be it Indian or overseas) comes close to the numbers, and that is specifically why MI should keep him at all costs.
