The heat of the competition often brings out the fiercest side of some elite athletes, even if they happen to be good friends off the field. Such a moment unfolded during the IPL 2026 final between RCB’s Virat Kohli and Gujarat Titans’ Rashid Khan at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

The incident occurred when Rashid threatened to throw the ball towards Kohli at the non-striker’s end, before jokingly making a friendly gesture. Kohli’s wife and prominent Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, meanwhile, watched the incident unfold with a worried expression from the stands.

Virat Kohli slaps fastest fifty in IPL career

Virat Kohli notched up a 25-ball half-century to record the fastest fifty of his decorated IPL career. Opening the innings with Venkatesh Iyer, the legendary Indian batter got his side off to a cracking start despite losing his partner as well as number three batter Devdutt Padikkal inside the powerplay overs.

The cricketer even seemed to have taken a special liking to Gujarat Titans in-form new ball paceman Kagiso Rabada, as he smacked the South African speedster to all corners of the Narendra Modi Stadium for back-to-back boundaries and sixes at one stage.

RCB lifts IPL 2026 title to script history

Winning the toss and opting to field first, RCB bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar responded to their captain’s call by taking the early wickets of both Gujarat Titans openers, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan respectively.

Nishant Sindhu and senior England batter Jos Buttler also failed to make the most of their confident starts as the two were dismissed by Rasikh Salam and Krunal Pandya. Washington Sundar unfurled the lone half-century of the innings, scoring 50* off 37 balls with five boundaries.

Rasikh picked up sensational figures of 3-27, while Krunal conceded just 23 runs from his four overs with the added bonus of Buttler’s wicket.

In response, Virat Kohli bludgeoned 75* runs off just 42 balls with nine boundaries and three huge sixes, including one to notch up the winning runs for the RCB franchise at the end of the 18th over.

The outcome helped RCB become only the third side in IPL history to retain the title, joining Mumbai Indians and CSK for the rare record.
