The IPL fever is over, and international cricket is back on track. Several high-octane bilateral series are lined up in the next few weeks. One of the key tours in the next few days is Sri Lanka’s trip to West Indies for a 3-match ODI series.

The Men in Maroon will host Sri Lanka from June 3-8 at Sabina Park in Jamaica. Ahead of the important series, West Indies have named a 15-member squad.

West Indies Squad For Sri Lanka Series

Shai Hope (Captain), Ackeem Auguste, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Shimron Hetmyer, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Shamar Springer

Key Takeaways From West Indies Squad

Shai Hope will return to lead the team. Further, Alzarri Joseph has also returned to the West Indies set-up for the first time since his back injury in November 2025.

Also, Shimron Hetmyer is back in the scheme of things, and Darren Sammy has shown his confidence in the southpaw, who is struggling for runs. The 29-year-old has not played a single ODI for West Indies since 2024, and it will be a crucial assignment for the southpaw, given the ODI World Cup is the next ICC event.

Although, in a massive setback for West Indies, Shimron Hetmyer will not be available for the first two ODIs and will only join the team for the 3rd and final ODI.

West Indies Head Coach Darren Sammy

“Sri Lanka are a disciplined and skilful ODI unit, especially in conditions that demand patience and smart cricket. For us, this series is about setting the standard, intensity in the field, clarity with the bat, and consistency with the ball. We want to play fearless but intelligent cricket and continue building the identity we believe West Indies cricket should represent.”

“In our desire to make home a fortress in ODI cricket, I want the team to win moments consistently rather than relying on individual brilliance, which we have stressed for the last 18 months.”

Why Is the Upcoming ODI Series Important For West Indies?

Notably, the upcoming series is important for the West Indies because they are fighting for direct qualification for ODI World Cup 2027. For the unversed, the Men in Maroon also failed to qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup, and it will be a real shame if they fail to head into the prestigious 50-over event for the 2nd straight season.

Talking about the current situation, West Indies are ranked 10th on the Men’s ODI rankings. Notably, for teams to earn direct qualification, they need to be within top 8 of the ICC ODI team ranking.
