In a significant development, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has cancelled a major cricket event that was scheduled for this year. The Bangladesh cricket team recently enjoyed stellar success, securing a historic 2-1 ODI series win over Pakistan on home soil.

The Tigers have had a torrid time, with geopolitical factors deciding their fate in global events. They recently missed out on the T20 World Cup 2026 owing to a logistical deadlock following a controversial feud with the BCCI.

As Bangladesh are starting from scratch after the T20 World Cup debacle, the anticipation of hosting India in a bilateral series has forced them to postpone a significant cricketing event.

The BCCI-BCB tussle that led to Bangladesh's T20 World Cup ouster

After the BCCI terminated Mustafizur Rahman's IPL 2026 contract with Kolkata Knight Riders, the Bangladesh Cricket Board approached the ICC, requesting that the Tigers' group-stage matches be relocated to Sri Lanka for security reasons.

However, with a few days left for the showpiece event, the Jay Shah-led ICC dismissed Bangladesh's plea, saying there was no security concern for their players in India.

But the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the government's decision to maintain their rigid stance led to their fallout with the apex cricketing body. As a result, the ICC expelled the Tigers from the tournament, replacing them with Scotland

The Scottish team played against the West Indies, England, Italy and Nepal, suffering an embarrassing exit from the tournament.

Amid all this, the ICC held a trilateral dialogue with the PCB and BCB, ensuring it wouldn't take any action against the Bangladeshi team for missing the T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh Cricket Board hopes to resume bilateral series with India

For the unversed, India were scheduled to play three ODIs and T20Is against Bangladesh in their backyard in August 2025.

However, the deteriorating ties between the two countries compelled the BCCI to cancel the event, as the Indian board refused to send its players amid the political turmoil in the country.

With the situation in Bangladesh steadily improving, the Bangladesh Cricket Board is hopeful of hosting the Men in Blue this year.

Although the BCCI has yet to issue an official update on the tour, the BCB is eyeing the September window to conduct the high-profile series.

This is the reason the Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to postpone the Ireland series, which was scheduled for September this year.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Cancels Ireland Series To Host India

As the BCB hopes to host India in September, it sought a modification to Ireland's annual cricketing schedule, which had the series against Bangladesh in the same timeline.

However, as reported by Cricbuzz, the Ireland Cricket has made it clear to the BCB that the series can't be rescheduled for another cricketing window in 2026.

This prompted the Bangladeshi board to postpone the series, planning to conduct the India tour in September 2026.

Although the official schedule for the India tour of Bangladesh hasn't been announced, reports claim that both teams might clash across three ODIs, followed by as many T20Is, from September 1 to 13, provided the BCCI green-lights the tour.
