In an important update, the Australian Women have added Rachel Trenaman and Maitlan Brown to their 13-member squad for the one-off Test against the Indian Women. The match will begin on March 6 at the famous WACA Ground in Perth.

According to Cricket Australia, the team has been forced to make changes because of several injuries. Notably, Kim Garth has been ruled out of the day-night pink-ball Test.

In addition, star all-rounder Ellyse Perry is recovering from a quad strain, while spinner Sophie Molineux is dealing with a back problem. Therefore, Trenaman and Brown have been called up to strengthen the squad and provide cover if needed.

Rachel Trenaman’s form earns maiden call-up

Rachel Trenaman has received her first senior Australia selection mainly as backup for Perry. The team management is hopeful Perry will be fit to play; however, if she does return, she may only bat and not bowl.

Meanwhile, Trenaman has been in excellent form in domestic cricket. The 24-year-old has been opening the batting for Tasmania in the Women’s National Cricket League this season. She has scored an impressive 648 runs at an average of 81, which puts her far ahead of all other players in the competition. Because of this strong performance, selectors believe she is ready for higher-level cricket.

Maitlan Brown returns after strong domestic season

At the same time, Maitlan Brown is returning to the national setup for the first time since 2021. The 28-year-old fast bowler has also had a successful domestic season. She has taken 16 wickets in 10 matches for New South Wales, showing good pace and consistency.

Notably, both Brown and Trenaman previously played for Australia A against India A in a four-day match in Brisbane last August. In that game, Brown took four wickets, including 3-65 in the first innings. Trenaman, opening the batting, scored 21 and 64, proving her ability in longer-format cricket.

Australia aim to extend series dominance

It is also important to note that Australia enter this Test with confidence. They recently won the ODI series against India and now hope to secure the overall multi-format series with a Test victory.

Captain Alyssa Healy is in outstanding form. She scored a brilliant 158 runs in the third ODI in Hobart, which helped Australia take an unbeatable 8-4 lead in the series. Since Molineux is injured, Healy will again lead the team in Perth.

The only pink-ball Test between Australia and India women will be played from March 6 to 9 at the WACA Ground in Perth.
