On Sunday, India enjoyed stellar success in the T20 World Cup, defeating the West Indies convincingly and qualifying for the semifinal of the tournament.

Under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership, the Indian team comfortably swatted aside their opponents and set the date with an in-form England team for the highly anticipated semifinal in Mumbai.

However, amid Sanju Samson's batting heroics and timely cameos from Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube, an incident that slipped under the radar was Axar Patel's angry outburst on Jasprit Bumrah for a fielding mishap.

Axar Patel hurls abuses for Jasprit Bumrah's sloppy fielding

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, India couldn't produce early breakthroughs with the ball. The West Indies openers, Shai Hope and Roston Chase, made the most of the conditions at Eden Gardens, ensuring a steady start for the touring party.

As India were struggling to draw the first blood, captain Suryakumar Yadav took a gamble and introduced Axar Patel into the attack.

Given that two right-handed batters were playing in the middle, Axar was expected to rule the roost and break the opening stand between Hope and Chase.

However, after going wicketless in his first two overs, the experienced campaigner conceded ten runs in his penultimate over to finish his spell with underwhelming figures of none for 25.

Although Axar Patel kicked off his third over with an accurate delivery around the off stump, Roston Chase played a delicate reverse sweep in pursuit of a boundary. Jasprit Bumrah, fielding at short third man, could've easily stopped the ball and saved a boundary.

Had Bumrah perfectly timed his dive, the dot ball could've increased the pressure on the Windies openers. But, unfortunately for Axar and India, Bumrah's sloppy fielding effort was not enough to prevent Chase from collecting a boundary.

As the ball raced to the third man fence for a boundary, Axar Patel was disappointed and rightly so. The veteran allrounder expressed his dissatisfaction at the lazy dive, even hurling some cuss words in frustration.

India's fielding blunders grab limelight vs West Indies

Jasprit Bumrah's sloppy effort was not the only time India committed a fielding blunder against the West Indies.

Abhishek Sharma dropped two straightforward catches, while Tilak Varma gave Sherfane Rutherford a lifeline near the mid-wicket boundary.

Ace spinner Varun Chakaravarthy also listed himself among the culprits, as he fumbled and threw the ball at the wrong end to miss an easy run-out opportunity.

Thus, the Indian players were given a reality check with regards to their fielding, an area they must assess before the all-important semifinal against England.

Sanju Samson show saves India from T20 World Cup elimination

After valuable knocks from Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell, and Jason Holder powered the West Indies to a massive 195-run total, India had a shaky start to their innings, losing Abhishek Sharma early during the run-chase.

Although Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav failed to make an impact, Sanju Samson bailed the hosts out of trouble with a sensational knock. His unbeaten 50-ball 97* and an excellent cameo from Tilak Varma ensured India went past the finish line in the final over.
