India will now cross swords with West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 clash. The highly anticipated match will be held at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, March 1. This match is extremely crucial for both teams. In simple terms, it is like a quarterfinal, as the winner will move ahead to the semifinals of the tournament.
At present, both teams have 2 points each after playing two Super 8 matches. Therefore, everything depends on this single game. India lost their first Super 8 match against South Africa, which put them under pressure. However, they made a strong comeback with a convincing win over Zimbabwe.
On the other hand, West Indies began their Super 8 journey with a dominant victory over Zimbabwe. Later, they suffered a defeat against South Africa. As a result, both teams now stand in a similar position, and only one of them will move forward.
India are in a must-win situation. Consequently, the team management may look at a few changes or tactical adjustments before facing the West Indies. Below is a simple look at how India could line up against the Caribbean side.
India Playing XI Vs West Indies- T20 World Cup 2026
Openers and Top order: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan
India appear to have found their opening combination for the remaining matches of the World Cup. In the previous match against Zimbabwe, Sanju Samson returned to the India playing XI and delivered a quick and effective start. He scored 24 runs from just 15 balls.
In addition, he built a solid 48-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma, which gave India early momentum.
Abhishek Sharma, who had struggled earlier in the tournament, finally found his form. He played an impressive innings of 55 runs from just 30 balls. His aggressive batting helped India gain control of the match early on. Since both openers performed well in the last game, they are expected to continue as the opening pair.

At number three, Ishan Kishan is likely to keep his place. Although Ishan has usually opened for India in the past, he showed good adaptability in the previous match.
Ishan Kishan scored 38 important runs and looked confident at the crease. Therefore, he is expected to continue at number three and provide stability as well as attacking intent.
Middle order and all-rounders: Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel
Captain Suryakumar Yadav has been leading from the front in this tournament. He has played several key innings under pressure. In this crucial match, the team will once again rely on him to anchor the innings and guide the batting lineup.
Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma were outstanding in the last match. Tilak, who was sent down to number six, played a fearless knock. He, along with Hardik Pandya, stitched together a powerful unbeaten partnership of 84 runs from just 31 balls.
Hardik scored a quick 50 off 23 balls, showing his ability to accelerate when required. Their batting positions may change depending on the match situation.
Meanwhile, Rinku Singh’s availability has been a talking point. He had temporarily left the squad due to his father’s health issues and later rejoined the team before the Zimbabwe match.
Even so, he was not included in the playing XI in that game. For this important clash against West Indies, he is not expected to feature in the lineup.
Meanwhile, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel are likely to retain their spots. There seems to be very little chance of India making a surprise change by bringing in Washington Sundar in place of Axar.
Although Shivam Dube was expensive with the ball in the previous match, conceding 46 runs in just two overs, he has been useful with the bat.
Bowlers: Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah
The bowling attack is expected to remain unchanged. Varun Chakravarthy will continue to lead the spin department. Although he has not yet delivered his best performance in the Super 8 stage, he has the skill to turn the game around: only the matter of time.
In the pace department, Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah will carry the main responsibility. Arshdeep, in particular, impressed in the last match by picking up three wickets. His ability to strike in crucial moments makes him a key player.
Jasprit Bumrah, even though he did not take a wicket against Zimbabwe, remains India’s most reliable pacer.
