Rohit Sharma is one of the most successful Indian captains, having won 2 ICC trophies and 2 Asia Cups in his tenure. However, during his tenure as the Indian captain, Rohit was never accused of being too authoritative or cold toward youngsters in the team.

Rather, he is often compared to a caring “big brother” with a notoriously playful side. He is frequently seen cracking jokes and having a friendly, teasing dynamic with teammates.

Sharma’s antics with his teammates have often been caught on the stump mic, leaving fans and commentators rolling on the floor laughing.

Now that Rohit Sharma's retirement news is all over the internet, we could not stop ourselves from compiling some of his most hilarious stump mic moments.

Rohit Sharma Stump Mic Moments: A Gift That Kept Giving

5) "Arre Jaisu, Gully cricket khel raha hai kya? Neeche baith ke reh"

Rohit Sharma shouted, "Are Jaisu! Gully cricket khel raha hai kya? Neeche baith ke reh," at Yashasvi Jaiswal. Translated to English, this means: "Hey Jaiswal! Are you playing street cricket? Stay crouching low."

This hilarious moment happened on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG in 2024 when Jaiswal was fielding at "silly point" (a position very close to the batter). When the batter hit the ball, Jaiswal jumped to protect himself.

Rohit Sharma, fielding nearby, got annoyed and yelled at him to stay on his knees and focus until the batter actually hit the ball.

4) “Pujji bhaag”

"Pujji bhaag", a famous viral moment from 2019 in which Rohit Sharma was caught on the stump mic yelling at his batting partner, Cheteshwar Pujara, during the Vizag Test against South Africa.

Frustrated after being sent back while attempting a quick single, Rohit let out a famous expletive while demanding Pujara run. The highly relatable outburst went viral on social media and even caught the attention of English cricketer Ben Stokes, who posted a cheeky comment about it on X (formerly Twitter).

3) “Viru, thigh pad diya hai kya?”

Former India captain Rohit Sharma was caught on the stump mic having a hilarious conversation during the third T20I against Afghanistan on January 17, 2024, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The incident happened just after the first ball of the second over, bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai, when Rohit could be seen asking the umpire, Virender Sharma, whether the first ball he faced was off the thigh pad.

“Arey Viru, thigh pad diya kya pehle ball? Itna bada bat laga tham pehle hi do zero ho chuka hai” (Did you signal thigh pad on the first ball? I have already been out for ducks twice), Rohit was heard saying on the stump mic, leaving the commentators bursting into laughter.

2) "Le leta hun, 3-3 hai"

When in doubt, Rohit always knew whom to consult. In the second Test of the India Tour of South Africa in 2023-2024, South Africa were batting with 9 wickets down, and the then-India captain Rohit Sharma was trying to convince his teammates and the bowler to appeal or review a close decision.

He pointed out to Virat Kohli that India still had three DRS (Decision Review System) chances remaining, so they could easily afford to use one.

Meanwhile, a senior member of the team, Virat Kohli, then replied, “Haa lele lele kya pata inside edge laga ho”.

1) “Garden mein nhi ghumega koi”

“Garden mein nhi ghumega koi”, a fiery on-field remark by Rohit Sharma during a Test match, took social media by storm in early 2025. The incident took place during the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam in February 2024.

Rohit was caught on the stump mic urging his teammates to show more urgency during a critical phase of the match. The phrase instantly struck a chord with fans and has been widely shared online ever since.

The then Indian skipper, in April 2025, opened up about the story behind the viral line.

"It was in Vizag that I saw the over end, and the players were leisurely walking as if they were in a garden. No one was running; there was no urgency in the field. I was fielding in the slip, we had spinners bowling from both ends."

"The game was hanging by a loose thread, it was an important game, we had to win. I had told the players in the morning that we need to put in some extra effort but they were having fun in the ground,” Rohit said on Hotstar.
