India captain Shubman Gill has raised serious concerns over the team's growing injury crisis after India's ODI series defeat against England. The Men in Blue endured a frustrating UK tour, not just because of the results but also due to the number of players who kept breaking down at different stages of the season.
From Hardik Pandya's prolonged rehabilitation to Jasprit Bumrah missing the Lord's decider and Washington Sundar pulling up midway through the series, India's medical team hardly got any breathing space in 2026.
Speaking after the third ODI, Shubman Gill admitted that losing multiple players throughout a short series highlighted a deeper problem within the setup, with India constantly forced to alter their combinations because of injuries.
As questions continue to be raised over India's fitness standards, here's a look at the Indian players who have battled injuries during the 2026 season.
1. Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya's injury nightmare has arguably been the biggest setback for India in 2026. The all-rounder's troubles began during IPL 2026, where persistent back spasms forced him to miss the latter half of Mumbai Indians' campaign, including four crucial league matches.
While recovering at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence, Pandya suffered another setback after straining his quadriceps during bowling drills conducted as part of his final fitness assessment.
The fresh injury ruled him out of India's entire white-ball tour of Afghanistan and England. Overall, Pandya missed 11 international matches, comprising three ODIs against Afghanistan, five T20Is against England and three ODIs against England.
With Hardik still unavailable, India have continued searching for a reliable seam-bowling all-rounder heading into the 2027 World Cup cycle.
2. Nitish Kumar Reddy
Nitish Kumar Reddy's breakthrough year came to a halt because of a troublesome left quadriceps injury.
The youngster first experienced discomfort while bowling in the opening ODI against Afghanistan in Dharamsala. Although India rested him for the second ODI, he returned in Chennai, where the workload aggravated the injury significantly.
Subsequent scans revealed muscle fibre disruption, forcing the BCCI medical team to rule him out of the entire UK tour.
In total, Nitish missed eight international matches, including one ODI against Afghanistan, both T20Is against Ireland and the entire five-match T20I series against England. India eventually drafted Suryansh Shedge as his replacement.
3. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli also endured an injury scare before India's tour of England. The veteran batter sustained a hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final, forcing him to undergo rehabilitation immediately after the tournament.
The injury ruled Kohli out of India's ODI series against Afghanistan, with his participation in the England tour depending on a late fitness assessment.
Fortunately for India, Kohli recovered in time and returned for the ODI series against England, where he scored 144 runs in three matches, including two half-centuries.

4. Harshit Rana
Harshit Rana has suffered multiple injury setbacks this year. Earlier in the season, the fast bowler sustained a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee, an injury that ruled him out of IPL 2026 and India's ODI series against Afghanistan.
After making his comeback during the UK tour, Rana's bad luck continued as he picked up a Grade 1 hamstring strain during the third T20I against England.
The injury ended his tour immediately, with the BCCI sending him back to the Centre of Excellence for rehabilitation. Consequently, Harshit missed all three ODIs against England.
5. Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar's injury came at the worst possible time for India. The all-rounder suffered a right hamstring strain while fielding during the second ODI against England in Cardiff on July 16.
Although Sundar battled through the remainder of the match, medical examinations later confirmed that he wouldn't recover in time for the series decider at Lord's.
India subsequently called up Harsh Dubey as cover, while Sundar was forced to miss the final ODI.
6. Jasprit Bumrah
India also suffered a massive blow before the Lord's ODI when Jasprit Bumrah became unavailable.
The premier fast bowler sustained an impact injury to his left knee while fielding in Cardiff. Although Bumrah completed the match, swelling developed overnight, prompting the medical staff to rest him as a precaution.
His absence proved costly, as India conceded 387 runs in the deciding ODI before eventually losing the match and the series.
Earlier in the year, Bumrah had also been rested during the Afghanistan tour purely as part of workload management.
7. Varun Chakaravarthy
Varun Chakaravarthy's injury turned out to be the most serious among India's recent setbacks. The mystery spinner suffered a Grade 2 hamstring tear during the third T20I against England.
MRI scans later confirmed that the injury was more severe than Harshit Rana's hamstring issue, ruling Varun out of the entire five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. India subsequently named Ravi Bishnoi as his replacement.
8. Shubman Gill
Unlike several others on this list, Shubman Gill has managed to avoid missing matches despite carrying an injury.
The India captain has been dealing with an ongoing neck problem that first surfaced during the South Africa Test series. The issue has continued to trouble him throughout 2026, occasionally affecting his movement while batting.
During the opening ODI against England at Birmingham, Gill retired hurt after scoring 80 off 75 balls due to the discomfort. However, he returned to play the remaining matches and continues to manage the injury without taking a break.
