LSG pair creates IPL history [Source: AFP, AP]
For almost 8 IPL 2026 games, almost all LSG batters looked like a pale shadow of their former self as they struggled for runs, and it reflected on the team’s performance. While their bowlers were always up to the mark and delivered the goods, the same couldn’t be said about their batters.
However, that all changed in the IPL 2026 match between MI and LSG at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday evening. LSG were put into bat by the Mumbai Indians side, and the team had a new opening pair in Mitch Marsh, and Josh Inglis.
While Inglis departed cheaply after a quickfire start, the newly promoted Nicholas Pooran had some other intentions as the West Indian broke the shackles, and alongside Marsh, he created history for LSG.
LSG registers their highest-ever IPL powerplay score
On a belter of a wicket at the Wankhede Stadium, all the Mumbai Indians bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Pooran and Marsh, as the hosts faced the LSG heat.
Pooran was the chief aggressor as he smacked sixes at will against Allah Ghazanfar and Will Jacks, and reached his fifty in just 16 balls. Marsh, too, joined the party as the pair tore down the MI attack and helped LSG register their highest-ever powerplay total.
The team scored 90/1 at the end of the 6th over, and this was their best powerplay in IPL history.

Pooran breaks individual IPL record vs MI
Nicholas Pooran was at his imperial best against the Mumbai Indians. The struggling LSG batter was finally promoted to number 3, and he justified the decision by playing a blinder at the Wankhede.
He smashed a 16-ball fifty, and interestingly, this is the second-quickest half-century scored by an LSG batter in the IPL. The West Indian has been LSG's best batter, as the fastest fifty record also belongs to him.
