On Sunday, Shadab Khan hit an epic ODI century, and England suffered another extraordinary defeat as Pakistan snatched a one-wicket victory to secure its place in the ongoing 2026 tri-series’ final.
Pakistan's chase looked doomed at 154-9 before a defiant 89-run last-wicket stand between Shadab and No. 11 Haris Rauf secured a dazzling win.
Shadab smashed his first ODI century to take Pakistan to 243-9 in 47.1 overs. England, which scored 429 and still lost in its last game against Sri Lanka, was earlier bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs.
In his first game of the tournament, Shadab scored 113 not out off 96 balls and farmed the strike. With that score, Shadab broke the world record for the highest ODI innings score while batting at No. 8 or below. He surpassed the record held by Simi Singh of Ireland (100* against South Africa).
Along the same lines, here’s the list of the highest individual ODI scores by batting position.
1 - Martin Guptill 237* for New Zealand
Martin Guptill scored an unbeaten 237 runs off 163 balls for New Zealand against the West Indies in the 4th Quarter-Final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup on March 21, 2015, in Wellington
Guptill's 237 not out is the highest World Cup score of all time and the second-highest in all ODIs, but most importantly, it ensured New Zealand's progression to the 2015 World Cup semi-finals.
2 - Rohit Sharma 264 for India
Former India captain Rohit Sharma scored a world-record 264 runs for India against Sri Lanka in the 4th ODI at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on November 13, 2014. Sharma’s knock, even after more than a decade, remains the highest individual score in ODI cricket history.
3 - Charles Coventry 194* for Zimbabwe
Batting at number 3, Zimbabwe’s Charles Coventry smashed an unbeaten 194 off 156 balls against Bangladesh in the 4th ODI at Bulawayo on August 16, 2009.
Despite Coventry’s historic knock, Bangladesh chased down the target of 313 with 13 balls to spare, led by a 154-run innings from Tamim Iqbal.
4 - Harry Brook 202 for England
On October 22, 2026, Harry Brook scored the fastest-ever double century in ODI cricket history as England amassed a whopping 429/4 against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi.
Coming to bat at number 4, Brook (202) clinched his maiden double ton in the format off 114 deliveries, surpassing India captain Shubman Gill’s feat (117) against the West Indies.
5 - Heinrich Klaasen 174 for South Africa
One of the most destructive middle-order batters, Heinrich Klaasen smashed an amazing 174 off just 83 balls for South Africa against Australia in the 4th ODI at SuperSport Park in Centurion on September 15, 2023.
6 - Glenn Maxwell 201* for Australia
Chasing 292 against Afghanistan in the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup on November 7, 2023, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Glenn Maxwell powered his way to a double-century and not only did they win the game, but they also sealed their place in the World Cup semi-finals.
Notably, batting at position 6, Maxwell rescued his team while at the same time battling through severe hamstring cramps, back spasms, and near-immobility.
7 - Luke Ronchi 170* for New Zealand
Luke Ronchi scored an unbeaten 170 runs off 99 balls for New Zealand against Sri Lanka at University Oval in Dunedin on January 23, 2015. He rescued New Zealand from a precarious 93/5 alongside Grant Elliott (104*).
Ronchi’s score remains the highest by a batter at No. 7 or lower in ODIs. The previous best was MS Dhoni’s 139 not out, for Asia XI against Africa XI in 2007.
8 - Shadab Khan 113* for Pakistan
With Pakistan 154 for nine in their run chase, 88 away, a win looked distant for the hosts. But all-rounder Shadab Khan had other ideas, and with No. 11 Haris Rauf providing adhesive company, they created one of the most memorable run chases in Pakistan’s ODI history.
In a nail-biting run chase, after being given out LBW on 97, Shadab and Pakistan took a breath of fresh air when an inside edge was discovered on the review.
Eventually, Pakistan won by 1 wicket, chasing down a target of 242 in 47.1 overs (243/9), and Shadab Khan finished with an unbeaten 113 off 96 balls at number 8, setting the world record for the highest individual score by a batter at number 8 or lower in ODI cricket.
9 - Andre Russell 92* for West Indies
One of the most influential all-rounders at the biggest stage of the game, Andre Russell pulled off a magnificent 92 not out off 64 balls batting at number 9 for the West Indies against India in the 3rd ODI at North Sound, Antigua, on June 11, 2011.
10 - Ravi Rampaul 86* for West Indies
Ravi Rampaul scored an unbeaten 86 off 66 balls batting at number 10 for the West Indies against India in the 2nd ODI at Visakhapatnam on December 2, 2011, setting the world record for the highest individual score by a No. 10 batsman in ODI cricket history.
11 - Mohammad Amir 58 for Pakistan
On August 30, 2016, Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir became the first No. 11 batter to score a half-century, making 58 (28) in the third ODI against England at Nottingham.
The bowler was Pakistan’s joint top scorer in the match, which saw England post the then-highest ODI total.
