Former Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has time and again defied the odds and has given his fans multiple occasions to cherish forever. Even at the age of 39, Rohit doesn’t shy away from giving his best for the team.

In January 2026, the Indian opener became the oldest in cricket history to be the top-ranked batter in the ICC ODI batters rankings. However, only 7 months later, reports have emerged that Rohit Sharma will hang up his boots on July 19, 2026, after the 3rd ODI against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

7) 50 off 40 balls vs South Africa, 2007 T20 World Cup

A 20-year-old Rohit played a game-changing innings for India in the knockout matches of the T20 World Cup 2007. Batting at 3rd down, Rohit scored a match-winning 50-run knock off just 40 balls from an early collapse against South Africa, which was a must-win match for India to qualify.

Later in the final of the tournament, Rohit played a crucial 30-run knock off just 16 balls against Pakistan, which made the difference in the end. Mind-boggling and most underrated knocks.

6) 209 vs Australia, 7th ODI, 2013 Australia tour of India

The former Indian captain scored a historic 209 runs against Australia on November 2, 2013, in the 7th ODI at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This spectacular innings made him only the third batter in ODI history to hit a double century.

His incredible 158-ball knock included 12 fours and a then-world record of 16 sixes in a single ODI innings. Thanks largely to his efforts, India set a massive total of 383/6 and won the match by 57 runs, sealing the 7-match ODI series 3-2.

5) 86 off 63 vs Pakistan, 2023 World Cup

The then Indian captain, Rohit, smashed a blistering 86 off just 63 balls against Pakistan in the home World Cup. His aggressive innings guided India to a dominant 7-wicket victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully chasing Pakistan’s total of 191 in just 30.3 overs.

Moreover, during this knock, Sharma became the first Indian to hit 300 sixes in ODI cricket.

4) 92 off 41 vs Australia, 2024 T20 World Cup

Sharma’s explosive 92 off just 41 deliveries against Australia on June 24, 2024, during the Super 8 stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup, is celebrated as one of the greatest in the tournament.

3) 161 vs England, 2nd Test, England tour of India 2021

Rohit Sharma scored a brilliant 161 runs against England in the second Test at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai on February 13, 2021. This highly controlled, counterattacking innings came off just 231 balls on a difficult, spinning pitch.

India entered the match trailing 1-0 in the series. Sharma's aggressive yet measured approach helped set a commanding total after India won the toss and elected to bat. 

With this knock, Sharma showcased that he is not just a six-hitting tormentor in limited-overs cricket but a technically sound batter in red-ball cricket.

2) 140 vs Pakistan, 2019 World Cup

Sharma scored a record-breaking five centuries during the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. No player has ever scored more hundreds in a single edition of the tournament.

However, among those 5 tons, his 140 against Pakistan stood out the most. It set the tone in a high-pressure match, helping the Men in Blue post a massive target of 336 to secure the crucial win over the arch-rivals.

1) 264 vs Sri Lanka, 4th ODI, 2014 Sri Lanka tour of India

Rohit Sharma scored a historic 264 runs off 173 balls against Sri Lanka on November 13, 2014, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. His innings included 33 fours and 9 sixes, setting the highest individual score in One-Day International (ODI) cricket history. India won the match by 153 runs, posting a total of 404/5.

India batted first and posted a massive total. Rohit Sharma's record-breaking double century dominated the scorecard, supported by a vital half-century from Virat Kohli. This knock can easily be rated as ODI cricket's greatest ever knock.
