The ongoing tri-series in Pakistan involving England and Sri Lanka has reached its business end. On Sunday, October 25, Pakistan and England engaged in a nail-biting thriller.

Shadab Khan’s century and 89-run stand for the last wicket against the Three Lions helped Pakistan chase down 241 and book their place in the final.

Pakistan Secure Final Berth Following Win Over England

Before the Pakistan vs England match, the Men in Green were on top of the table with 2 wins in 2 matches, while the Harry Brook-led side were still hunting for their first win. The Shaheen Afridi-led side required just a win to secure a place in the final, and they did exactly what the doctor ordered.

With three wins in three matches, Pakistan are comfortably sitting in the final with a match to go against Sri Lanka, which will be a dead-rubber fixture for them. Nonetheless, Sri Lanka and England still have a chance to qualify for the final, and this article will shed light on their qualification scenarios.

Sri Lanka’s Qualification Scenario For Tri-Series Final

Sri Lanka have played just 2 matches in the ongoing series, the least among other teams. In two games, the Island Nation lost against Pakistan and have a solitary win over England.

For Sri Lanka, the math is pretty simple. Since England have lost three matches in a row, the Island Nation needs just a single win in their remaining two matches to qualify for the final.

If Sri Lanka beat Pakistan on Tuesday, they will set up a final against the hosts. However, if they lose, then they need to register a win against England on Thursday, October 29.

If Sri Lanka lose against England as well, then they have a chance, because net run-rate will come into play. At present, the exact scenario for net run rate is not clear because Sri Lanka need to play their match against Pakistan first.

England’s Qualification Scenario For Tri-Series Final

For England, things are pretty complicated and tricky. The Harry Brook-led side have 0 wins in 3 matches, but still have a slim chance of making it to the final. Firstly, they require Sri Lanka to lose their match against Pakistan on Tuesday.

If Sri Lanka win, then the journey ends for the Three Lions. If, Sri Lanka lose, then England will have to register a mammoth win over the Island Nation to go ahead of them in net-run rate, as both teams will finish with 2 points in 4 matches.
