India ODI Squad vs T20I Squad against New Zealand: Key Changes
1. Shubman Gill Replaces Shreyas Iyer As Captain
Shubman Gill will lead India in the first three ODIs against New Zealand, replacing Shreyas Iyer, who captained the T20I side.
Iyer has been named vice-captain for the opening three matches. The leadership change brings Gill back into the ODI setup as India prepares for the 50-over format.
2. RO-KO Return To India's ODI Squad
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in India's squad for the ODI series. Both senior batters have stepped away from T20Is and Tests, making the 50-over format their remaining international format. Their return adds considerable experience to India's batting order ahead of the New Zealand challenge.
3. KL Rahul Returns As The Wicketkeeper
KL Rahul has been included in the ODI squad as the designated wicketkeeper for the first three matches. He was not part of the T20I squad, which featured Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan as wicketkeeping options. Ishan retains his place in the ODI setup, giving India two wicketkeeper-batters for the opening matches.
4. Several T20I Specialists Miss Out
Shivam Dube, Varun Chakaravarthy and Mayank Yadav have not been included in the ODI squad after featuring in the T20I series. Their absence makes way for a different combination suited to the 50-over format.
Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prince Yadav are also among the T20I players left out.
5. Gurnoor Brar And Mohammed Siraj Return
Gurnoor Brar and Mohammed Siraj are part of India's ODI squad after missing the T20I setup. Their inclusion strengthens the pace-bowling options for the 50-over leg.
Siraj brings international experience, while Brar gets an opportunity to feature in the ODI combination as India look to build their bowling attack.
6. Anshul Kamboj And Ruturaj Gaikwad Get ODI Opportunities
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Anshul Kamboj have been included in the ODI squad but were not part of the T20I group.
Kamboj adds another pace-bowling option, while Gaikwad provides batting depth. Both players will be looking to make the most of their opportunities in the 50-over format.
7. Auqib Nabi Added To The Updated Squad
Auqib Nabi was initially named for the fourth and fifth ODIs but was later added to the squad for the first three matches as well replacing injured Prasidh Krishna.
8. Nitish Kumar Reddy Retained For The First ODI Only
Nitish Kumar Reddy is the only player from this ODI group whose availability is restricted to the opening match. He will then join the India A squad for the final four-day game against New Zealand A to gain match practice ahead of the Test series.
9. Prince Yadav And Bhuvneshwar Kumar Left Out
Prince Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have not been named in the ODI squad after featuring in the T20I series.
While Prince was part of India's pace attack in the shortest format, Bhuvneshwar brought his experience to the T20I setup. Neither has been selected for the opening three ODIs.
Players common to both squads:
Seven players feature in both squads, although Nitish Kumar Reddy is available only for the first ODI: Shreyar Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav
