Lucknow Super Giants entered the IPL in 2022 and quickly became one of the most talked-about new teams. Despite some strong performances over the years, the franchise is still waiting to win its first IPL title.

In their very first season, LSG impressed fans by reaching the eliminator in the playoffs. They repeated the same result in 2023 as well, showing consistency but falling short of lifting the trophy.

Leadership has been central to LSG's journey, with captains steering the team through highs and lows. From playoffs appearances to difficult exits, every captain has shaped the franchise’s identity in different ways. Here, we look at all the captains of LSG over the years.

List Of All LSG Captain In IPL

4. Nicholas Pooran

Nicholas Pooran became the third captain in Lucknow Super Giants history during the early stages of IPL 2024. The West Indies batter led the side against Punjab Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

Regular skipper KL Rahul featured in the match only as an Impact Player because of injury concerns. Since an Impact Player cannot captain the side, Pooran was handed the leadership duties for the contest.

That match remains the only occasion Pooran has captained LSG in the IPL so far. He enjoyed a successful outing as skipper too, guiding Lucknow Super Giants to a comfortable victory over Punjab Kings.

3. Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya became Lucknow Super Giants’ stand-in captain during the second half of IPL 2023 after regular skipper KL Rahul was ruled out with an injury. The all-rounder stepped into the leadership role at a crucial stage of the season.

Despite not being the franchise’s first-choice captain, Krunal handled the responsibility well and kept LSG in the playoffs race. His calm approach and tactical decisions helped the team remain competitive during a difficult phase.

Krunal captained Lucknow Super Giants in six matches during the 2023 season. Under his leadership, LSG registered three wins, suffered two defeats, while one match ended without a result as the team eventually reached the playoffs.

2. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant became Lucknow Super Giants’ captain after KL Rahul’s exit. Though Nicholas Pooran was considered, the franchise chose the more experienced Pant, who was bought for a whopping INR 27 crore in the 2025 mega auction.

Expectations were high for Pant as captain, but LSG struggled under his leadership. In 2025, the team finished seventh, and the following season in IPL 2026 saw them slip to the bottom of the table, failing to find consistency in performances.

Over two seasons as skipper, Pant led LSG in 28 matches, winning only 10 while losing 18. After these disappointing results, he stepped down from the captaincy at the conclusion of IPL 2026.

1. KL Rahul

KL Rahul was the first-ever captain of Lucknow Super Giants after the franchise joined the IPL in 2022. The stylish batter played a key role in shaping the team’s identity during its early years in the tournament.

Under Rahul’s leadership, LSG enjoyed a strong start to life in the IPL and qualified for the playoffs in their debut season in 2022. The team also reached the playoffs again in 2023, although the franchise could not win the trophy.

Rahul captained Lucknow Super Giants in 37 matches across three seasons, winning 20 and losing 17. After a mixed 2024 campaign, he left the franchise and entered the IPL 2025 mega auction.
