India’s workload management of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is commendable. With his unusual action, the Indian seamer is injury-prone, and hence, the Indian team has carefully monitored the number of series that he plays. Often, Bumrah is not used against lower-ranked teams, and he is only used in important matches, so as to preserve him.

With the T20 World Cup over and India emerging as the victorious team, the focus has now shifted towards the 2027 ODI World Cup. India desperately wants Bumrah to stay fit for the marquee event, which is still 1.5 years away, and hence, reports have emerged that he won’t play any T20I matches for the next few months.

Bumrah will focus on playing more ODI matches, and if he is rested from the T20I format, the Men in Blue need a solid replacement, someone whom they can groom for the T20 World Cup in 2028. Here are 3 players whom India can nurture, keeping in mind the next T20 event.

1) Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana was in the scheme of things for India in the T20 World Cup, but a serious injury ruined his plans as the pacer is currently sidelined. Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian team, has always backed Harshit, and when everyone mocked the pacer, the head coach kept his faith in the bowler.

In reality, there is no one who can replicate what Bumrah does on the field, but Harshit has that X-factor that can be useful on pitches in Australia, where the T20 World Cup matches will take place.

In 47 T20 matches, Rana has scalped 52 wickets, and while the economy is slightly on the higher side, he has the potential to become one of the best bowlers in this format. Rana has the raw pace to trouble the best in the business, and due to this factor, the team must consider him for the World Cup in 2028.

2) Mayank Yadav

Injury has put a stop to Mayank Yadav’s T20 journey, but when fully fit, there is no one quicker than him in India. His exploits in the IPL 2024 season have been well documented, as the LSG pacer scalped 7 wickets in four matches. However, the interesting part was that he instilled fear in the minds of the batters, a trait that Bumrah possesses.

  • In 19 T2O matches, Mayank has scalped 25 wickets, with a solid economy of 7.43. In his relatively short T20 journey, the pacer has been impressive, and if India needs a genuine wicket-taker, Mayank could be the answer.
  • Moreover, on Australian wickets, his ability to generate extra bounce could be useful, and India should take a bold call and nurture him for the World Cup in 2028.

3) Prasidh Krishna

In the last IPL season, Prasidh Krishna was the surprise package as he finished as the highest wicket-taker. His hit-the-deck bowling was troublesome for the batters, and the question arises: if he can generate extra bounce on Indian wickets, why can’t he do it in Australia?

He has 106 T20 wickets in 97 matches, and the lanky pacer could be a solid player to groom for the T20 World Cup in 2028.
