Babar Azam TR Reaction - (Source: X.com)
On Wednesday, Pakistan locked horns against Bangladesh in the first of a three-match ODI series, hoping to put behind the ghosts of the T20 World Cup 2026. The PCB named a fresher and younger squad to prepare a blueprint for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
The decision quickly backfired as the Shaheen Afridi-led side tumbled for their lowest ODI total against Bangladesh. The Men in Green amassed just 114 runs and quickly became a laughing stock on the internet. Their previous lowest total was in the 1999 World Cup when they tumbled for just 161 runs.
The fans quickly took to social media platforms, where they slammed PCB, selectors and the entire team for their shambolic performance.
Fans Remember Babar Azam After Pakistanβs Flop Show
Before the series, Pakistan selectors were under heavy scrutiny because they dropped Babar Azam from ODIs without him doing much wrong. Babar had a disappointing World Cup campaign and only amassed 91 runs in four innings. However, one fact that the PCB ignored while picking up the squad for the Bangladesh tour was that Azam was Pakistanβs leading run-getter in their last ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Notably, Sri Lanka toured Pakistan in November 2025, where Babar Azam scored 165 runs in three innings, which also featured a century for the right-handed batter after two years. Therefore, no one expected him to be dropped following a stellar series.
As mentioned above, fans slammed Pakistan and reminded them of Babar Azamβs absence from the team. Here are a few reactions.

Pakistan Debutants Flop On ODI Debut
In an attempt to lay out a roadmap for 2027 ODI World Cup, Pakistan handed debut to four players - Sahibzada Farhan, Shamyl Hussain, Abdul Samad and Maaz Sadaqat. However, none of the batter managed to live up to the opportunity presented to them.
Sahibzada Farhan started strongly but tumbled for just 27 (38) which featured four fours. Meanwhile, Maaz Sadaqat opened the innings and returned to the pavillion after scoring 18 (28).
Shamyl Hussain was the biggest disapointment and scored 4 (7). Hopes were high on Abdul Samad but he scored a six-ball duck. Now, the PCB face immense presssure from fans to make immediate changes and bring back the likes of Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Saim Ayub in the team, who have been proven game changers in the ODI set-up.
Faheem Ashraf Saves Pakistan From Embarrassment
Despite the wickets tumbling from one end, Faheem Ashraf took the responsibility on his shoulder and pulled Pakistan out of embarrassment. At the time of writing, Pakistan tumbled for 114 runs but Faheem Ashraf was the star batter and scored 37 (47).
It took Mustafizur Rahman's brilliance to get Faheem Ashraf out. Bangladesh now require 115 runs to win to lead the series 1-0.
