Player Bio

Annerie Dercksen is a South African all-rounder who has quickly established herself as one of the brightest prospects in women’s cricket. A right-handed batter and right-arm medium pacer, she is known for her adaptability and composure under pressure.

Growing up in the rural Beaufort-West area, Dercksen often played cricket with her cousins in open fields, where she first developed her love for the game. Despite limited facilities in her hometown, her determination led her to travel long distances to attend training sessions, an experience that she later described as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices behind her journey to professional cricket. Dercksen started out as a spinner but later switched to seam bowling during her university years.

The 2001-born player rose through the domestic system, representing South Western Districts and later Free State, where she established herself as a consistent performer. In provincial competitions, she produced several standout performances, including match-winning half-centuries and crucial breakthroughs with the ball. Her ability to contribute in both departments caught the attention of national selectors, earning her a call-up to the Proteas squad in 2023.

She made her T20I debut against the West Indies in January 2023 and soon expanded her international résumé with ODI and Test debuts in 2024. One of her most memorable early international moments came against Pakistan, when she struck an unbeaten 44 off just 23 balls to seal a thrilling series win for South Africa. In the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, the all-rounder played a pivotal role in the Proteas becoming the runners-up of the tournament.

In 2025, Dercksen was named the ICC Emerging Women’s Cricketer of the Year, a testament to her growing influence. With a maiden central contract secured, she is now firmly regarded as a future cornerstone of South African cricket. Later in 2025, she produced some match-winning knocks in the ODI Tri-Nation Series that also featured Sri Lanka and India. Her maiden ODI ton (104 against Sri Lanka) also came in this tri-series.

She is often touted as the next Marizanne Kapp, whom she considers her hero. In fact, Kapp also rates Dercksen very highly.
