The world of modern-day cricket is well aware of the fearless talent that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is. But who would have thought the 15-year-old had what it takes to grace a world-class bowler like Jasprit Bumrah so effortlessly?

Even Bumrah, who is famous for terrorising batters, as was evident in India’s historic T20 World Cup 2026 campaign, was smahed all around the park by Vaibhav,  Despite Bumrah's reputation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi took the bull by the horns in MI vs RR IPL 2026 match and did something that no one had thought of.

In just 12 months since his IPL debut on April 19, 2025, Sooryavanshi has achieved plenty that batters can’t, despite years of experience. He has left2 everyone in awe every time he comes to bat.

That being said, in this article, let’s take a look at how Rajasthan Royals found this goldmine of a batter.

Rajasthan Royals’ 11-year-old scout to the youngest IPL centurion

According to TOI, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was first spotted by Rajasthan Royals’ Talent Identification Coordinator, Akshay Karanje. It is worth noting that Akshay had found him sometime between 2022 and 2023, when Sooryavanshi was just 10 or 11 years old. Karanje sought to alert RR’s group that he had found the “amazing young player” who deserves a look.

After a brief look, Sooryavanshi was summoned for the RR trials ahead of IPL 2025, and after the management saw him bat for the first time, they were convinced that the small boy is meant for the big stage.

Moreover, the former RR director of cricket and current head coach, Kumar Sangakkar, in an interview with Sky Sports in 2025, disclosed that the team discovered young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 2023, when he was just 11 years old, two years before signing him.

"Sooryavanshi has already shown himself to be a very special talent," Sangakkara told Sky Sports. "In 2023, one of the Rajasthan Royals analysts sent through a text saying there's a very special player we need to watch, get to trials, and look to sign.”

The Royals, after monitoring the youngster closely for a year, went on to sign up Vaibhav at the IPL 2025 mega auction for ₹1.1 crore, making him the youngest player to ever land a contract for any Indian Premier League team.

“And the first time I saw him live was after we had signed him, apart from watching some videos of him batting in the nets in Guwahati, batting against Jofra Archer and other seamers that we had. And he made it look very, very easy."

Indeed, Sooryavanshi is one of the best scout products in IPL’s recent history. His century vs Gujarat Titans in 2025, in just 35 balls, established him as a formidable force in the tournament and highlighted his potential as a future cricket star.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi unleashed an unexpected carnage against India match winner

History will never forget Sooryavanshi’s first-ever IPL encounter against arguably the greatest T20 fast bowler of all time. In Rajasthan Royals’ rain-hit game against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, the teenage left-hander showed no hesitation when Bumrah’s very first ball to him was sent straight back over his head for a massive six.

However, the carnage didn’t stop there. Sooryavanshi pulled him for another six on the third ball he faced against Bumrah, two sixes in three balls. This incredible hitting not only left the crowd stunned but also India’s proven match-winner, who has a reputation for changing the course of the game single-handedly.

This wasn’t a one-off incident. The teenage prodigy from Bihar had already made a strong start to his second IPL campaign. He began with a 15-ball fifty against the five-time IPL champions, Chennai Super Kings, at the same venue, Guwahati’s Barsapara Stadium. Vaibhav followed it up with another quickfire 31 off just 18 balls against Gujarat Titans.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi IPL Investment Return: Turning performance into financial value

In the rain-curtailed MI vs RR game, Sooryavanshi did not need a half-century or a century to prove his worth. His 14-ball 39-run knock helped him amass 122 runs from just 49 balls in the ongoing IPL 2026 so far. He has maintained a remarkable strike rate of 248.97. Notably, nearly 87% of his runs have come in boundaries, showing his power-hitting prowess.

However, his value is not limited only to his performances. The teenager has already generated a profit of ₹3.53 crore for his franchise. His total match value stands at ₹3.77 crore, while the total contract cost charged across those appearances is only ₹23.57 lakh. This translates into an approximate 16 times return on investment.

In simple words, RR’s explosive top-order batter comes in and plays an extraordinary innings, goes viral all over the internet, and becomes the point of discussion more about his age than his performance.

For the IPL franchise, Rajasthan Royals, Sooryavanshi’s presence means: a high-scoring batter at the top, strong momentum in power play, and ultimately exceptional value relative to cost.
