Lucknow Super Giants vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match ended in the former's favour at Uppal Stadium on April 5. However, despite the thrilling clash, a brain-fade moment from Nicholas Pooran went viral on social media, with netizens taking a dig at his lack of awareness.

Soon after Nicholas Pooran’s dismissal, a video of MS Dhoni’s dismissal from over a decade ago against Kings XI Punjab resurfaced. Notably, Dhoni was dismissed in the 37th match of IPL 2012 in a similar manner to Pooran’s dismissal on April 5.

The Brain Fade Dismissal Of Pooran Against SRH

Nicholas Pooran, much like MS Dhoni, the wicketkeeper, has been an explosive batter for Lucknow for some seasons now, and coming into his third match of IPL 2026, the franchise had high expectations from him.

However, he has failed to deliver so far in the tournament. Pooran came in to bat at number five, with the match in LSG’s favour alongside captain Rishabh Pant. In the 14th over, Shivam Kumar bowled a fuller delivery.

Pooran went for a sweep shot but failed to connect, and the ball was collected by Ishan Kishan behind the stumps. Confused about where the ball had gone, Nicholas Pooran assumed it had passed the wicketkeeper and stepped out of his crease to take a run.

Seizing the opportunity, Kishan quickly dislodged the bails, dismissing Pooran. Much like this, Dhoni’s 2012 dismissal has now gone viral again, with clips showing how history repeats itself.

How MS Dhoni Was Dismissed Back In 2012

It was the 37th match at Chepauk on April 28, 2012, when Kings XI Punjab and Chennai Super Kings faced each other. Kings XI Punjab batted first and set a target of 157 runs, courtesy of Mandeep Singh’s 56 and Shaun Marsh’s quick 32 off 22 balls.

In response, CSK started well but suffered a collapse after Badrinath’s dismissal in the eighth over. Suresh Raina and Wriddhiman Saha were dismissed soon after. When Dhoni came in, he lasted only three deliveries before being dismissed by wicketkeeper Nitin Saini.

Dhoni’s Brain Fade Moment in IPL

On the second ball of the 13th over, Dhoni attempted a cut shot to a delivery outside off stump. However, he mistimed it, and the ball took the bottom edge of the bat and rolled behind him.

Expecting the ball to go towards the off side, MS Dhoni failed to spot it and, being in a blind spot, attempted a run. Not realising that Saini had the ball behind him, Dhoni was run out after the stumps were broken.

Dhoni’s wicket proved crucial, as Chennai failed to win the match. Although Dwayne Bravo scored a quick 30 off 21 balls, it was not enough, as Azhar Mahmood and Piyush Chawla kept striking to restrict CSK.

LSG Win Despite Costly Pooran Wicket

Nevertheless, while this brain-fade moment drew comparisons between Nicholas Pooran and Dhoni’s dismissals 14 years apart, Lucknow Super Giants ultimately emerged victorious.

In a tense finish, Rishabh Pant’s 68 off 50 balls guided the chase, with Mukul Choudhary staying unbeaten at the other end as LSG sealed the match by five wickets with one ball to spare.
