In a jaw-dropping moment, Rilee Rossouw picked an acrobatic relay catch to dismiss set batter Steve Smith in the recent clash between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2026.
The Gladiators were fighting hard to defend the total of 166/7. Smith was carrying the Sultans’ chase by scoring a half-century. However, Rossouw’s brilliant fielding effort ended his stay on the crease.
Rilee Rossouw Sends Steve Smith Packing In PSL 2026
Steve Smith was batting on 53 when he faced Hasan Nawaz in the 14th over of the second innings. The Australian veteran attempted a slog sweep toward deep midwicket but couldn’t cross the boundary line.
Rilee Rossouw ran to his left and initially caught the ball near the boundary. However, his momentum was taking him over the boundary rope. Had he stepped out while holding the ball, it would have been a six.
So, mid-air, Rossouw used his presence of mind to throw the ball back inside, where his teammate Saqib Khan completed the catch inside the field.

Needless to say, relay catches are always tricky, and the third umpire had to review it. But Rilee Rossouw didn’t make any mistake, and the decision went into the Quetta Gladiators’ favour, thus ending Smith’s anchor knock.

Multan Sultans overpower Quetta Gladiators
Meanwhile, coming back to the match, Multan Sultans beat Quetta Gladiators by 6 wickets in match 13 of PSL 2026. Chasing 167 runs, the Sultans hammered 83 runs in the first 6 overs.
Steve Smith anchored the chase perfectly, scoring 53 off 35 balls. Sahibzada Farhan provided an explosive start with 32 off 14 balls. Even Shan Masood contributed with 46 off 30 balls to provide a calm finish.
For Quetta Gladiators, only Hasan Nawaz showed some real fight, picking up two wickets in 2 overs while conceding 17 runs. Saud Shakeel and Alzarri Joseph picked up a wicket each.
However, the spin duo of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq remained wicketless again, which is a major point of concern for the Gladiators moving forward into the tournament.
Quetta couldn’t hold the momentum in the first inning
Meanwhile, Quetta Gladiators even struggled with the bat in the first innings. Saud Shakeel started strong with 56 off 41 balls but lacked late acceleration.
Bevon Jacobs added the finishing boost with 49 off 31 balls. Ahmed Daniyal then came in for a late cameo of 22 off 9 balls.
However, despite all the effort, Quetta Gladiators could only score 166/7 as early wickets hurt their momentum. Moreover, the batters slowed down in the middle overs. All these factors ensured that the Gladiators couldn’t push beyond 170+.
With that victory, the Multan Sultans have climbed to the top of the table with 6 points in 4 games. On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators slipped to sixth with just 2 points in 3 games.
