Pooran's brainfade moment vs SRH in IPL [Source: Screengrab/JioHotstar]
LSG rectified one mistake from their last game, but continued to persist with one in their IPL 2026 fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the previous game against the Delhi Capitals, Aiden Markram was demoted to number 3, but that mistake was sorted as he was promoted to the top against SRH.
However, for some reason, LSG made the same mistake twice in IPL 2026, as Nicholas Pooran, their best T20 batter, has been playing at number 5, a position that should be given to Ayush Badoni. Pooran did wonders for the franchise last season at number 3, and 4, but the team from Lucknow demoted him, and it has been reflected in his performance.
Two games in a row, the West Indian has failed to deliver the goods, and in the IPL match against the Orange Army, the left-handed batter produced a brain-fade moment that flipped the context of the game.
Pooran's brain-fade moment that turned the tides in LSG Vs SRH
LSG had lost a couple of quick wickets when Pooran came into bat at number 5. The match was in LSG’s favour as Pooran was accompanied by team captain Rishabh Pant. The two players had a seemingly easy job, but Pooran had some other plans.
In the 14th over of the LSG innings, Shivang Kumar bowled a slightly fuller delivery on the pads as the LSG batter went for an attempted sweep shot, and he didn’t get the best of the connection. However, this is when the brain-fade moment occurred as the ball went straight to the keeper, but Pooran thought it had gone past him.
The left-handed batter took off for a quick single before he realised that Kishan had the ball in his hands. The SRH captain dislodged the bails in a flash as Pooran had no time to react, and he was run out at a crucial juncture of the game.

The SRH spinner was charged up as he knew they had dismissed a dangerous batter, but interestingly, Pooran had a part in his wicket, as he indirectly helped the Orange Army dismiss him.
Pant to be blamed for Nicholas Pooran's downfall?
Just two matches into the IPL 2026 season and it seems LSG may have made a huge mistake in demoting Nicholas Pooran in the batting order. His confidence seems to be at an all-time low, and the batter has failed to deliver for his team.
At number 5 in the IPL, Pooran averages 30.65 and strikes at 163.32. However, when batting at numbers 3 and 4, the numbers improve drastically. At 3, his strike goes up to 186.64, and at 4, he strikes at 165.77.
What is not broken should not be changed, and perhaps LSG skipper Pant made a huge mistake in demoting Pooran to 5, a position where he has done well in the IPL, but it is still not his best position.

For the neutrals, Pooran's dismissal was hilarious as the batter completely forgot the cricketing basics, and it cost him his wicket. This is how the fans reacted after the LSG batter was involved in a brain-fade moment.
